Day One “Hello”
I can’t believe I’m posting this but I promised I would. GinKyra -////- Day 1 of my attempt to write a drabble every day for the month of November.
Kyra pushed her hair behind her ear once again as she shuffled quickly down the street. She patted her messenger bag once again, almost nervous that it might get torn away in the rush of people. It was a ridiculously busy day and she had chosen the worst time to get out in the flow. She almost missed her turn, but at the last second she darted between two people to pop out in the familiar alleyway - and right into what felt like a brick wall.
Her butt hit the ground and all the air shot out of her with a brief ‘oof!’ For a moment she simply sat there stunned, unsure of what happened but then there was a rather large hand in her face. Silver eyes peeked out from under red fringe as she realized it was not a wall, but a person she had run into at full speed. “Sorry, what?”
“I said are you alright? You took quite a tumble there.” His voice was nice. She hadn’t made it up yet but she already could tell he was much taller that she was. Carefully taking the hand in front of her, she let the man pull her up to her feet, which he did in one quick motion that practically knocked the air out of her again.
“I’m so sorry,” Kyra blurted out. “I wasn’t looking where I was going and I just ran right into you.”
“Do you always look at the ground when you talk to people?” She was so surprised by the random question that her head shot up so she could finally look at his face. “There you are. Hello.”
White hair. How rare. Her eyes traveled his face but he definitely didn’t look old. It wasn’t like his was balding or anything and his eyes were clear and sharp, not at all aged like his hair hinted at.
“Oh uh, hello.” She bowed her head again and he let out a sigh, scratching the back of his neck. “Ano... I’m Kyra Yukimore, sorry for the trouble.” She reached in her bag and pulled out one of her business cards, carefully handing it towards him with both hands, her head still down. “If you ever need help with your computer or network, give me a call. I’ll be sure to give you a discount.”
“Kyra.” She looked up, surprised at how quickly he took an informal tone with her. “Alright, I don’t have any fancy business cards. I’m Gintoki Sakata, I run Yorozuya.”
“Sakata-san” she repeated, committing it to memory. She would remember the given name. It fit far too well, silver name for a silver head. “It fits you.”
“So I’ve been told, jeeze. And just Gin is fine. Well then.” He tucked her card into his shirt and waved toward a restaurant across the street. “Careful with your nerd stuff, you coulda broken something.” He gave her bag a look and took off, casually linking his fingers behind his head as he left.
“Gintoki Sakata huh?” She turned back around after watching him disappear into the crowd. “What a strange guy.”
