There was a buzzing just under his skin, a sensation that would not be calmed until he was sure Sabrina was really safe, sure they were currently away from the danger but that didn't mean there was more right around the next corner. Jase had a keen skill at attracting and better still at finding danger. They had a complicated relationship of meeting, Death and Jason, it came in the reckless form of some pseudo heroic act on Jason's part while whatever he went after tried to kill him, sometimes succeeding temporarily. It was a cycle that Jason was comfortable with, his life for the greater good of others, that's what he had been telling himself the last decade or so, time was elusive and held no true place in his life, if that's what it could be called.
Sabrina was a changing factor, at times Jase found himself truly being brave and even worse frightened. When Sabrina had first gotten hurt it sent Jason through a polemic episode not at all aimed at the woman but more at himself, he was furious with how he could have even allowed such a thing to happen. As time went on and they spent more time together, now a constant and reliable thing that he hadn't expected, Jase was more concerned with not only her safety but keeping her healthy. He couldn't always keep her uninjured and away from the bad things, but he could tend to her like the mother fucking hen that he was. So he had stopped the car in the middle of the road, a back one, dark and surrounded by trees where there could have been absolutely anything lurking.
But they had time, he had spent a good deal of the drive speeding as smoothly as he could, gaining distance and losing anything that could have followed them; however, not all the things after them followed the same. Jase was highly aware of any beings of the supernatural realm, and for now, they were lost, he could buy them some more town. He'd been running from such things for a very long time, Jase was used to hiding in more than one way.
The tall mans lips twitched into a brief smile but one he held for Sabrina, his gaze moved from her to the map then back again as she rested back against the car seat and closed her eyes. If he had been on his own Jase would have continued, pushed himself to pure exhaustion and then even further into that abyss before he pulled off in some isolated location to crash; he wasn't going to put Sabrina through that nor did he wish her to see him so hard on himself 'though she had already seen too much already. "Looks like a small town just a few miles up, nothing too big, might be a highway town--" he voiced as he gently took the map and quickly looked it over before refolding and replacing it, shifting back in his seat again to switch gears and drive on. "Better chance of that milkshake," Jase finished with a side glance and smirk.
