"Oh, Fred, here you are! I... I wanted to give you a little something..." Kiran smiled to the other, looking a bit embarrassed at his own words but then holding out a small bag to Fred, all cutely decorated with hearts and small flowers (definitely not his idea, really!). He then leaned forward a bit, kissing the paladin's cheek quickly. "Ha-happy Valentine's day! Or, eer, Day of Devotion I guess? ha ha. W-well, I made these myself, I tried giving them a horse shape, but... Ignore that part..."

Given the way everyone (well, most people, anyway) had been going on about the Day of Devotion, it was hard for it not to be constantly resurfacing in his mind. The last few years back in Friege and in Jugdral hadn’t exactly been very cheerful ones, and to see people able to express their feelings for their loved ones with openness and joy brought contentment to his heart.

Of course, Fred had people he wanted to show his appreciation to as well. He still had to give Lady Olwen that fruit basket (or something along those lines), after all (though he did wonder if Kiran would like to have a hand in delivering that as well)…and then there was Kiran himself. Flowers and sweets seemed to be a popular choice of gift, but for the Summoner himself, Fred had opted for something a little more practical…or would something more personal have been better?

It was deep in these thoughts that he bumped into the very person in question, and before he could think of what to say a bag was being presented to him. 

“Thank–” he started, but before he could finish Kiran had moved forward and planted a kiss on his cheek.

“Ah–” Should he reciprocate? But Kiran was already moving away, and now he was speaking…and a handmade gift, horse-shaped or not, was an honour to receive.

“Happy Day of Devotion to you as well. I’m sure that they will be excellent, no matter what shape they are. I have something for you as well…though it may seem a somewhat ‘stuffy’ gift in comparison.” And with that, he held out a book on the different languages of Jugdral, sorted by country.

“I can’t claim to know all of these, but I thought that…perhaps it would be of some interest to you. I’ve certainly learned some new language from you since I’ve arrived here.”

A...baby bird? That the Summoner had found on the floor? He wasn’t sure whether this was a gift or more of a request to care for the chick, but either way, he would do his best.

The chick was a species he had never seen before, bright orange with no visible wings, and rather fearless for such a small creature. It pecked inquiringly at his boots as he knelt on the floor in front of it, and he wondered what in the world he was supposed to feed it when he knew nothing of its species. Perhaps he should try offering it several different types of food and seeing what it liked?

The sudden sneeze wasn’t that startling, but the small burst of flame that shot out of its mouth was--as was the fact that the edges of his robes were now on fire. Hastily waving his hand over them, a touch of magic allowed him to stop the spread any further, though the (somehow) contrite look in the...magic? bird’s eyes had him extending his hand again, palm facing upwards to conjure the tiniest spark of flame. When he raised his hand, the bird’s round eyes followed, jumping up and letting out excited chirping noises as sparks shot out of its beak.

Perhaps caring for it would not be so bad after all...

A bright red box with a messily-written tag has been delivered by Feh! Tied to its ribbon is a letter, and within it are five cookies. The letter reads:

Hello, Reinhardt. I know we haven’t really spoken much since I messed around maybe more than I should have with you — I should really fix that. I’d like to know more about you and maybe become a friend instead of just dropping by via association. 

These are orange cookies — they’re a thing folks made a lot back in Ram, a village I grew up in. Maybe they’re a little simple, but they’re not very sweet, so it’s one of the few cookies I enjoy having. I hope you like them! (If you want more, there’s a lot leftover. I went overboard.)

May today bring you joy, and here’s to… whatever comes moving forward! Alm.

The fervour surrounding the Day of Devotion in Askr is like nothing he’d ever experienced, even back in his home world. Despite the serious consideration he’s given to hiding out with Archbishop Saias in order to avoid getting anyone’s hopes up for a date, romantic or (ostensibly) not...it seems that his friends and acquaintances are determined to drag him outside anyway.

The box that Feh deposits in front of him is entirely unexpected, and his mind blanks for a moment as he tries to remember if he’s done anything to warrant a gift. Apprehension floods through his body as he considers the possibility of it being from some sort of...admirer, for whatever reason, but the small tag on the box soon dispels his fears. Had Sir Alm drawn the charming little horse bust himself?

The letter is the next thing he inspects, though he has to read it more than once before he can fully comprehend the words on the page before him. It’s true, they don’t yet know each other very well, “adopted family members” or not--and yet he’d seen fit to give Reinhardt a handmade gift anyway. He can’t help the sudden tightening of his throat nor the rapid blinking of his eyes as he lifts the lid to reveal the (thoughtfully not-very-sweet) cookies within.

He will most definitely have to think of something to do for Sir Alm in return, but for just a few moments...perhaps it is alright to simply sit and enjoy the gift he has been given.
