That night, Wendy dreamed of Bae.
She was trapped in her cage and he was in the woods around her--running, hiding, or perhaps a mix of both. His back was always to her and he looked so frightened. Wendy called out to him--screaming, yelling, pulling at the bars of her cage--but he neither saw nor heard her. Finally she saw what he was running from. The Child Thief was strolling through the trees after him, smiling, even laughing, but when he spoke it was to Wendy and again, it was as if Bae couldn't hear a word.
You'll never leave this place. You broke the rules. Did you really think you could fool me, bird?
Peter Pan never fails.
Felix was sitting in his usual place, with his back against a tree, throwing his deadly darts. Somehow in his chase, Peter was making his way closer to her. Bae was now hunched over, scared and alone. Abandoned. She screamed to him that she never forgot about him. That she had come back to save him. But it was no use.
You are mine. I did enjoy playing our little game, but you lost. And now you are my prize.
He was close now. Much too close. Tears were streaming down Wendy's face and she felt a stabbing within her chest. She knew that if he came any closer she would break. The only thing stopping him was the barrier of Felix's poison darts.
Peter Pan never fails.
