complaining about tadc again
so. we all remember the chinese room right?? the thought experiment arguing that computers can look like they understand things but don't actually have the capability to do so?? the thing that caine used and was heavily referenced in that episode.
the fact that the whole show is based around the premise that the digital circus drives the humans to insanity because everyone and everything in it is only a computer. nothing has any reality or substance. caine is, notably, not a human person and is incapable of the same humanity that the cirucs members have.
so uhhhh, so uh. so . why does the last episode just get rid of that? after caine's colossal crashout, he's stuck in the void and does some introspection. he actually decides to investigate his own behavior and realizes that he's the problem, takes steps to change himself, then comes back to the humans and delivers a youtuber apology for his actions. after which he just becomes friends with them again
caine is legitimately a human person at that point. there is NO difference between his character and that of the humans! and to make matters worse, when the moon says it loves him, he responds "huh i dont remember coding you to say that🤔" okay so, the message there is that if you code something properly it can become its own sentient person capable of volition and genuine, actual love.
i'm not saying i inherently hate a story where robots are people, but this is an abrupt flip of one of the story's most major themes, FOR NO DAMN REASON AT ALL. on top of that, i think spreading the message that an AI can be a person who loves you, in this current climate, is an awful idea...especially with how many children watch the show
