Their Young Hearts |orangeflamewrites|

There are few things that change a persons face. Their laugh lines that land alongside their nose and down to the corners of their lips. The fine lines that crinkle on the edge of their eyes when they yawn or laugh. The brow lines that contract when they’re confused or upset. The way their flesh clings to their cheeks and jaw when they cheer or frown....
All these things he had memorized when it came to them. The person he’d, at one point, called his and only his. The person who could tell him to jump and he’d ask how high.
And yet, this person wasn't supposed to be back in his life ever again. The odds of it happening were minuscule. Or so he’d thought.
There they stood... laugh lines the slightest bit more defined, and eyes just as wide and bright as when they’d been younger. Their existence was making his heart clench because they were mere footsteps away and he couldn’t bring himself to breach them and get closer.
There was a wall dividing them. One thicker than just a cold and sudden breakup. Something deeper than a simple sorry could not fix.
Lethe had torn their relationship to pieces and it had broken him in the same amount of pieces. He didn’t know what to do but stare... just stare at what he once held so dear and being slapped in the face by the realization that he’d let it all go.
