Ava had never really had plans. Not in the way that others had; talking long-term goals and steps to get there. There was the plan of course, the one that had been laid out for her long before she could even remember. Anything else had been minuscule, temporary plans planned shortly ahead and gone in a moment. It had led to a life where she could leap without worrying where to land. Until now. It felt like her life had become a clogged machine, each component stuck in its place and close to bristling. The first realisation had come in full sometime last week, that something had to give. The second came closely after; that she had no idea what came next. For the first time in her life, the lack of plans was becoming an issue. Perhaps it was due to The Plan crumbling, with the other components in her life following suit, but she was suddenly staring into the abyss with no idea of where the landing was.
But something had to give. Ava had never had issues with ripping off the proverbial band-aid, so she made herself rip it off once more. It was all about taking things one step at a time, and everything would work itself out. At least that was what she told herself when slinking into the office. Every day it became a little harder to breathe in here, a little harder to make herself open the door. Ava was painfully aware that this was the largest anchor driving her down. So she was going to change it. Yesterday, during another sleepless night, she had decided that the best way was to tell someone. Once an idea was out there, there was no dragging it back. Ignoring protocol, meeting schedules and in general, the way the Ministry worked, Ava gave Antonin’s door a quick knock before slinging it open. Standing in the frame, she still wasn’t sure if she was there for support or sense. Maybe both.
“Do you have a moment?” she asked in greeting, stepping inside before giving him a chance to answer. “I know you got all your, well, work-stuff but I just need to...” Ava trailed off for a moment, unsure of what she actually needed. To ask for advice? To just loudly declare her intentions to someone she trusted? She picked up quickly. “I am thinking of, no wait, actually I think I am, quitting.”
