Sofia glanced behind herself, looking at the open door, her mind taking her back downstairs and into the lounge of the castle where a count was more than likely cursing at himself that he let the princess slip away. Sighing, figuring honesty was the best policy, she further explained her concerns. “Back down there. That visiting count keeps pawing at me, telling me how lovely of a bride I’ll make and…” She looked down at her wrist, remembering how tightly he had gripped her. One could still see the hand print. “I actually came up here to see if I could borrow one of your spare wands. Just….just in case he finds me.” The princess was more than capable of handling herself, but it was always good to have a back-up plan just in case things went south.
“Pawing at you?”
The sorcerer’s tone was a bit more than just questioning – there was a touch of malice hidden under his genuinely concerned gasp. If this was anything near what the princesses’ tone implied...why wasn’t Roland doing anything? Those markings? Certainly his own step-daughter’s comfort and safety would mean something to him? And why was a Princess so renowned for her courage suddenly so fearful? And what was this thing about marriage?
He would stand after a mere second of thought and hurry himself to her side, gloved fingers gently resting against her back with the lightest push to urge her towards a more quieter and less cluttered space downstairs. Getting her away from the source of her anxiety was all he hoped for at this very moment.
“You’re going to get yourself in trouble if you do what I think you’ll do. Come; you must tell me exactly what’s going on. You’ll be safe here.”
He had a thought but it was one he refused to allow manifest in full. A girl such as herself didn’t deserve such out-dated and convoluted traditions. No woman did. No person.
