elia as the princess diana of westeros is all fun and games until you have to face the fact that the constitutional monarchy of the UK that was already largely symbolic by the time diana and charles were married is a very different system compared to the absolute monarchy of westeros.

and the situation that camilla found herself in is incomparable to the situation that lyanna found herself in. westeros was designed as a society that allowed women literally no agency. I'm not saying 80s-90s britain was a utopia, but I guarantee that camilla had many paths she could have taken, but lyanna had to choose between either getting forced into a marriage (and potentially experience marital rape for the rest of her life) or run away with a man who she not only loved and desired but also had the financial and political means to keep her safe and supported for the rest of her life.

ALSO sorry can we stop acting like camilla is the spawn of satan for daring to get with a married man? the hate that charles and camilla get for the affair of all fucking things is actually ridiculous at this point. they are literally the face of a colonial power built and sustained on the suffering of millions. they continue to uphold the values of the british empire and they profit from the fruits of colonisation every single day. but instead of constantly calling this out, people choose to fixate on the affair.

if charles hadn't cheated on princess di. would that have magically fixed the monarchy? was the royal family not just as rotten as it is now (as it has ALWAYS been) when di was a part of it? isn't that part of the reason why a kind and caring woman such as her even left it in the first place?? it's almost like charles, camilla, and diana are all individuals within a corrupt system, and nothing that they themselves do is going to change the truth of that. and wasting energy on blaming charles and camilla for daring to be part of an extramarital affair is ridiculous (and has puritanical AND misogynistic undertones to it, btw) when the british monarchy (that forced all three of them into this fucked up situation, btw) is still standing and thriving, and that's the problem we should be tackling.
