laundry day, see you there
It wasn’t strictly a tactical decision, but Spock found a certain sense of safety in doing external chores when most of the apartment’s inhabitants were asleep.
The laundry room, in particular, was known to be a relative hub of activity throughout the day, as students tended to wait until the last minute, and occupy several machines at once. Since it was a risk to leave anything unattended, you were usually confined to the space until the wash was complete, and Spock didn’t much relish the idea of having to make small talk with people he never saw but frequently heard, loudly, in adjacent rooms. Or worse, not talking at all, since after the first minute of silence, it becomes too late to easily begin greetings.
Spock carried down his washing, extra softener tucked among the folds, and loaded up the machine furthest from the door. The room was thankfully empty, but there was no practicality in being obnoxious by using a middle one.
Now, with an hour to use up, Spock pulled out a battered textbook and settled into a corner, expecting the time to pass relatively undisturbed.
