While his back was facing him, Manigoldo tip-toed over with arms outstretched for Sage. As soon as he got close enough, the Saint leapt to grab Sage in a big hug. His arms wrapped themselves around the Pope's shoulders and attempted to ride on Sage's back as he exclaimed shamelessly, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOU OLD FART!!!"
Did Manigoldo really think he could sneak behind him? That a man as extravagant as himself could hide his bright energy and fool this old teacher? Such naivete was almost sweet if Sage didn’t know what would follow; but he had an idea.
His pupil was predictable sometimes.
And heavy, and loud, and too old for that.
But Sage effortless held him in place, arms wrapped behind his back to support Manigoldo’s weight. It was a comical scene, probably, and Sage couldn’t help but laugh a little, Mani’s arms hugging his shoulders.
“And this is how you greet me, child. I truly need nothing more.” Sarcasm? Not really. The Pope didn’t care to remember those dates anymore, but he would never decline such amiable motion. Especially coming from that brat. “Now move, yes. You’re supposed to be the adult who carries the old man, not otherwise.”
