SHE HATED WORKING AT THIS DINER. But it was a job, and so Catherine knew she had to be GRATEFUL for that. Still, she was frequent with her breaks. Luckily, the place was n e v e r packed but had another server or two always. This left the woman to find a nice stool at the long counter to settle herself and start SCRIBBLING down a possible grocery list -- assuming she would get her paycheck soon.
Someone seemed to enter alongside her, but she couldn’t find the other workers at that moment. Tired groan. “Caroline or Makenzie will be out to help you in a short bit, bub. I’m on BREAK, so can’t help you at the moment.” Well... she could, but she didn’t want to.

THE STRING SUDDENLY DANGLING before her was a surprise, but she didn't show it along pointed features. Instead, the older feline just raised a white spotted brow, tilting her head back to look up at the guy upon a rock, dangling it down before her. Did he really think he'd get her so easily?
( Well, admittedly, she wanted to bat at it with every fiber of her being, but she also didn't want to give him such satisfaction of giving in just yet. )
Try again. Make it more exciting than to just dangle it.

LONG YOWL OF SURPRISE was given when a foot stepped down near to her, almost landing upon her body. Mittens stiffened, irritation flooding through small body as she turned her attention to the stranger that had nearly flatted her. A long m e o w was given to garner attention and inform said other that she really NEEDED to watch where she was going.

JUST WHEN SHE THOUGHT SHE HAD seen everything, she saw something new. In this case, the character before her was VERY new. Like something out of a TV show. Although, granted, at least Bolt was really just an everyday canine. Mittens had no excuse for this stranger before her. Eyes were wide -- unblinking -- staring with CONFUSION apparent along her features. Even for a cat.
“Okaaaaay. And... what are you?”

OKAY, so maybe she had lost her touch when it came to hunting. Of course, it had always been somewhat difficult without claws -- but getting older was proving to take its toll, as well. The leap at the butterfly had been more to test herself than it had been to actually catch the thing. Missing by a pawlength and then crashing back to the ground hadn’t been part of the plan.
Naturally, the cooking rat would somehow be there as witness.
“Oh, hey, rodent. Pretend that didn’t happen.”
