She’s more than a little startled when the alert tone on her phone sounds. She’d been so focused on trying to balance her brothers’ books––and doing her homework, and studying for an exam––when it had beeped and almost vibrated off of the table.
Of course, her confusion at who would be texting her at time time of night hadn’t dissipated with seeing who had text her. If anything, it worsened.
