åmfx - ‘In The Cafe’ Track Review
With ‘In The Cafe’, åmnfx, the recording alias of Russian producer Vasily Skobeev, goes for a moody, reserved tone. The production is chilly, with field recordings and subtle static coming up through the spaces between looping piano phrases and muffled percussion.
‘In The Cafe’ is certainly chilly sounding, but theres a warmth here as well. As the name might suggest, it evokes a cozy feeling - a coffee in the cafe on a cool spring morning, just before work, reading a book and thinking about skipping, taking the day for yourself. It is a feeling that contradicts the urge to dance, despite the repetitious nature of the beat; you have permission to dance but why dance when you can just listen and enjoy.
