So... I was watching episode 3 of Prehistoric Planet (freshwater) and still questioning Mosasaurus, and was thinking back to childhood and remembering that even before I knew I was a therian, I had daydreams, fantasies, I guess I could call them noemata, of massive seasonal floods that overtook wetlands, forested areas and valleys and allowed normally open-ocean animals (like 11-year-old me daydreaming being a mosasaur) to travel past the coastline and into the mainland to prey on vulnerable terrestrial animals slowly trying to navigate the flooded terrain.
It was a big fantasy of mine and so intense I would get excited thinking about finding land herbivores much larger than my normal prey struggling through the water, and dragging them down for easy food. And I was idly watching the episode and typing something up for a 'kin channel of a server I'm in to ask my friends if they thought it was possible this could be a thing that actually happened in the Cretaceous, and literally as I was typing it the episode started talking about elasmosaurs exploiting high tide to come up rivers and into the forested mainland.
Well then.
