It was only his wide scope and experience that allowed him to recognize Hannibal Lecter for what he was. And even then, it was a string of accidents and slight slippings of the mask that had allowed him to be almost certain of what he was dealing with. Another consulting psychiatrist, hiding behind the title like a monster behind a paper mask.

The penny had dropped one afternoon when a small slight had causes a series of micro expressions that didn't belong. The rest of the pieces fell into place. It wasn't that the man was a narcissist. The traits were so easily confused with psychopathy markers that is was easy to simply assign garden variety narcissism and move on.

But that, it was not.

"Will, thank you for coming." None of that information tarred his warm greeting of the other profiler he had requested speak with him about several cases. George's smile was genuine as he stepped into the office he had been given for the length of his visit to the city; sitting behind the desk and waiting for him to take a seat opposite.
