Closed Starter: Saved at Last (James/Perry/Voyagers)

It had taken a lot of work and James would 100% be lying if he said it was easy. It had been difficult. It had been very difficult. But gods, the work had been working out for them thus far, and they'd finally managed to make a rough path back towards Montressor. Home, they'd be able to get good food, supplies, and more of a crew, then get back to Earth and to Addersfield and get back to their lives.

Right now, he'd just appreciate getting the chance to rest. He leans against the side and smiles, appreciating the stars for a moment. Appreciating home, for a moment.

It was strange how it didn't quite feel like home, being out here, sailing the stars. He hadn't talked about it, but...

Something about it felt less like home than it used to, and he kept thinking of Addersfield, his dorm with Liam. He missed it. A lot more than he'd expected.

Harper pulls up to the barn with a soft sigh. They're almost done working on the ship, and it honestly doesn't feel real. The fact that they're actually going to space, that she'll actually get to experience being amongst the stars. It's something she's always dreamed of. She gets out of the car and heads inside with a grin. "So... Glitter?"

Perry looks up and rolls their eyes, chuckling a little bit. "Listen, who am I to stop people from making dumb mistakes with glitter?"

James laughs, but doesn't pull back from where he's putting some final touches on some of the mechanics, installing Perry's terrifying but semi reliable teleporting device. "You don't have to stop it, but you don't have to enable it, either, y'know." Shaking his head slightly, he finishes the last connection and extracts himself, glancing to the pair. "Done. I think this beauty is nearly spacebound, save for any cosmetic work we'd wanna give her."

"Mm-mm. Nope. Not doing that today. Or. Any day. Thanks." James continues working. He doesn't want to think about it, he doesn't want to talk about it, especially not everything to do with what he's been saying to Ciri and... frankly anyone else who'd ask if they'd asked lately.

Nope. He's good. He's great.

Perry sighs and rocks back on her feet, looking down for a moment to gather her thoughts. She looks back up at James with soft eyes. "So... I did a lot of thinking while we were stuck, and I realized something... I've never apologized. Not really. What I did hurt you a lot, and no matter what state I was in, it caused real harm. And so, I'm sorry. Truly and genuinely. I never should've pushed you away like that, and it was wrong of me to use your trauma in that way."

James frowns, worried when she looks down. Their body language, movements, he... he was worried, admittedly, about what this might be about.

Then she apologizes, and it hits him like a truck. He doesn't even know what to say-- everything in him wants so much. Part of him wants to tell her she has nothing to apologize for, part of him wants to apologize for pushing so much when they were in such a fragile state, and--

And the part of him that wins just starts crying. No words, can't speak, only sobbing.

Perry knocks on James' door and crosses her arms, hugging herself tightly. - ( @storystartsanew )

James looks up, carefully setting his gun back on his nightstand and opening the door, gently stepping aside to let her in. "Hey. Come on in, it's gonna be all right. You're safe here, all right?"

James blinks, checking his phone at a... text...

He knew he'd never deleted her number, but... he never expected to hear from her.

He never expected to hear from them for the rest of his life. There's a hesitation as he thinks of a response. "Yeah. Apparently, hitting Scroop with my truck doesn't count as a solution to the problems we're having."
