How will open data change the future?
Open data has many benefits for everyone as it allows the sharing of information and resources. This allows us to hold decision makers accountable with solid evidence. This means in the future when a significant decision is made we are able to use open data to decide whether or not this decision is beneficial to society and whether or not the people making the decision has taken the wider picture into view.
One example of this could be a government decides to cut the police force. This would mean that there are less police per a hundred thousand people and using open data we can see that the less police there are per a hundred thousand people the more crimes take place. This would allow people to protest this change as the actual outcome of this move would not be beneficial to society as the crime rate would rise and people would feel less secure. This demonstrates how open data allows us to create a securer future as we can assess the situation and avoid risk.
As more and more data become available more and more people will be able to make better decisions with more resources. This would create more freedom as if there is less fear people are more likely to be able to express themselves.
