researching the minor deities in the Ugaritic pantheon is so fun! i just love when the first page of Google results is Dennis Pardee and myself, citing Dennis Pardee,

i began calling myself a “scribe” of the Ugaritic gods probably a year or two ago, because the work They ask of me is very scribal. find info. transcribe it. record it. share it. i don’t have a personal devotional relationship with Them in the same way that i do with the Netjeru or Theoi, so i thought of this as the best way to describe my service to Them.

i didn’t expect to discover that “scribe” means far more to Them than i originally though. i didn’t expect to discover new potential work and have Them enthusiastically demand it to be done. that’s not a complaint - i’m excited! i’m legitimately having fun! i gave myself this title and i’ve never regretted it! but holy cow was it a surprise to catch a glimpse at Their expectations and realize it is an ocean i’ve only waded into up to my ankles.

sharing hot spiced red wine with Anat and Reshep and dedicating my old deer statue to Reshep with incense. i’ve already been using the statue loosely for Reshep for a few months and i think he laughed at me but hey! i’m trying to be formal!

@bookofwisdom i’m really interested in this deity list; it’s from Ritual and Cult at Ugarit by Pardee & Lewis. from the notes i guess this list is very strange, but some of these epithets are really throwing me for a loop - have you seen Anatu-the-Mutilated or The Two Strangling-Goddesses before? (i’m assuming the Shapshu epithet is relating to her underworld role?)

throwing this out to the general levpag community too - this is a deity list used for offerings in Ugarit :) (for posterity’s sake, the very first god on the list that is cut off is Ilu)

Do you worship Mot/Motu at all? also can you give some general info about Him?

If you are referring to Mot/Motu of the Canaanite pantheon, then no. 

Motu was not a deity who the Canaanites worshipped. He is not like Hades or Wesir, a god associated with the underworld or the afterlife. Motu is the literal embodiment of death and decay, that everyone including the gods feared. 

His mouth is the devouring mouth of the grave. He was not, and is not, worshipped.

Do you know any god/desses that enjoy fruit alot??

Oh yes! There’s a tons. I’m pretty sure most deities will like some form of fruit. Obviously I don’t know all pantheons but here are the ones that like fruit in my personal experience (so you’re only getting my gods here). 

Kemeticism: 

Sobek: Mangoes, oranges, pomegranates, lemons, cherries, blood oranges

Hethert: Cherries, pomegranates, strawberries, apricots, peaches

Khnum: Green apples, kiwi, peaches, apricots, avocado, honeydew, cantaloupe 

Wesir: I got good vibes with avocado and peaches 

Taweret: Watermelon, honeydew, grapes, pineapples, blackberries, raspberries 

Guys if anyone wants to add more Netjeru or otherwise who like fruit and what fruit they like please do :O

Canaanite Polytheism: 

Most if not all these deities will accept fruit, especially: grapes, pomegranates, raspberries, and figs. 

Hinduism: 

Most if not all Hindu gods will accept fruit as offerings, especially because the majority of fruits are sattvik foods.
