Kaito finished stitching up his latest bullet wound. Those men were starting to get bolder at his heist, sending more snipers and gunmen to bring the phantom thief down.
To make matters worse, Aoko had been at the heist. He was sure that she didn’t notice the gun shots due to his extremely loud distraction for the crowd below. It would be easy to dismiss a gunshot for one of KID’s props going off.
But he was still worried. She hadn’t been in the crowd…she was in the building taking her dad some much needed coffee. She also said something about sticking around to capture KID.
Kaito looked at his phone, picking it up and dialing Aoko. He needed to make sure that she was alright. He had been so close to dying tonight. Not that it would’ve mattered. He was a criminal. Sure he had a fan base but that didn’t matter to him. Not if the one person that he cared about the most hated his guts…well, his alter ego’s guts. She had said before that she hoped that KID would just die…he knew that she didn’t really mean it but it still stung. It’s not like he wanted to be a criminal. He just couldn’t stand by and watch innocent people get hurt. It was best if he could do what he can to direct that organization’s attention to him.
He began to think out loud, almost as if he were talking to someone. As he spoke, he imagined that Aoko was the one listening to him. Would she be able to forgive him for lying to her? Would she hate him?
He didn’t notice when Aoko picked up the phone, too busy going through the scenarios. “Would you miss me if I’m gone?”

Aoko hadn’t expected a call as late as this, especially from Kaito of all people. Yawning, she picked up the phone, about to ask him why he was calling so late when he said, “Would you miss me if I’m gone?”
Her heart dropped at that moment.
Oh no. Oh god no.
“Of course I would, you idiot!” she shouted, half-panicky. Shoot, she shouldn’t have called him an idiot. “Kaito, is something wrong? Are you alright? Where are you? At home?”
She started falling over her feet in haste to grab her coat.
