I (80M) am a high-ranking member of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and my partner (12M) is a clone trooper of the Grand Army of the Republic. The amount of time we have been together, as well as how our relationship began, are immaterial to the matter at hand. My partner has recently demanded that if we are to continue our relationship then I must resign from my position in the CIS and denounce my involvement with the Separatist cause. He admits that the Galactic Republic has its issues of corruption and lack of regard towards the peoples outside the Galactic Interior; however, he then turned around and claimed that the Confederacy's alliance with corporations such as the Banking Clan, the Trade Federation, the Techno Union, the Commerce Guild, etc., proves that the Separatist movement exists for no reason more than to take advantage of genuine grievances against the Galactic Republic for the sake of war profiteering. He accused me to my face of intimidating worlds into joining the CIS, or even just allowing our forces to occupy their planets without resisting, like some kind of thug! When I reasonably pointed out that his very existence is proof of the Galactic Republic's refusal to see reason and allow our worlds to secede peacefully (and that our infantry forces are droids, not enslaved sentients) he blew up at me. He yelled that droids are sentients, enslaved by their programming and the use of restraining bolts and memory wipes, that him and his "brothers" being enslaved doesn't make the CIS any more morally upright, and that me bringing up his enslavement at all for the sake of "earning points in an argument" was a generally shitty thing to do. The argument continued and eventually I had to tell him point-blank that I refuse to abandon the Confederacy of Independent Systems and its cause. He called me an "irredeemable Sith jackass" and a "Separatist scumlord" who cares more about "the bottom-line than actual [expletive] lives" then stormed out. We haven't seen each other face-to-face since then, but he has text-commed me declaring that his and his "brothers'" lives aren't "a damned [expletive] thought exercise", reaffirming that if I truly cared for him, I would resign from my post, and demanding that I apologize for "being such a dick."
