I’ve seen a lot of people celebrating how Sansa came out of the finale, saying she survived and got what she deserved etc. but am I the only one deeply unhappy about how her story wrapped up? The girl’s always been one of my favorites, and I hoped for the best for her, but I feel like her character was irreparably damaged this season and her superficially “good” ending hollow and unsatisfying. The writers turned her into a bitter, petty, scheming and untrustworthy shadow of herself, needlessly at odds with other women (including her own sister) for drama alone, having become “tough” and “self-reliant” by absorbing the toxic ideas of the very people who abused her, including adopting the idea that their abuse was something she should even be grateful for, as it somehow made her “strong”. For Sansa, who’s constantly dreamed of a future of peace and plenty, beauty and security with her family around her, and who desperately wants to be loved, to end up isolated in the harsh, uncultured, xenophobic North, without family or friends, on a throne she never had any interest in seems like a terribly sad and unfitting end, even if it happens to put her in a place of (relative) power and safety.
