...I just found an ER fanfic I wrote in 2004. It has only slightly cringey smut between Abby and Randi 😳
(The cringe is a combination of the fact that I hadn't had sex at that point so there are just a lot of cliché phrases that I'd read in other fics, and the fact that my current asexual ass is feeling ~weird~ that I wrote a 1000 word sex scene lol)
But there are 1200 other words that I am not totally uncomfortable with, that I would like to share here with the smut redacted lol. Because @everybodyknows-everybodydies made that post about writing with the confidence of a preteen having just discovered the world of fanfiction. And even though I was an actual teen and had discovered fics a few years before, this still inspires that feeling in me. And the fact that there's a current fandom 16 years later? Even better.
“I don’t know.” Carter shrugged his shoulders.
ménage à deux
“Do you think she’ll wanna do it?” Abby asked.
“Well, who’s gonna ask her? Me or you?” Abby asked again.
“Uhm…” Carter looked at Abby, silently implying that she would be asking.
“What are you guys talking about?” Chuny came up and asked.
“Nothing!” They both practically yelled at the same time.
“Fine. I have ways of figuring things out…” she laughed before walking away.
“Maybe this isn’t such a good idea…” Carter began to say.
“Oh no you don’t. You’re not backing out of this.”
Randi walked up to the pair. “What’s all the whispering about?” They were startled because it was Randi that they were discussing.
“Uhm…Randi, can I ask you something?” Abby asked.
“Sure.”
Abby looked around at all the other nurses standing around who would start gossip if they overheard. “Not here.” Abby led Randi to the lounge.
“What’s up?” Randi asked.
“Uh…John and I were thinking that it might be fun if…uhm…this is weird.” Abby didn’t think she’d be this uncomfortable.
“It’s okay. I think I know what you’re trying to say. Why me, though?” she asked.
“Well, we thought of who we knew that might wanna do it and you were the only one we could think of,” Abby explained. “So…are you interested?”
“Where?”
“My apartment.”
“When?”
“Tonight.”
Randi nodded her head. “Okay.”

Abby drove Randi back to her place that night. Carter had driven in his own car this morning, so he was driving separately.
“So who decided to do this? You or Carter?” Randi asked.
“Me.”
“Was I your first choice?” she asked again.
“Uhm…actually the reason your name came up was because of this dream I had,” Abby admitted.
“Really?” Randi raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
“Uh, yeah,” Abby answered, stopping at the red light.
“Was it a particularly…vivid dream?” Randi asked, grinning. Abby blushed, confirming it had indeed been a very vivid dream.
As they pulled up to Abby’s apartment, Randi touched her shoulder. “I won’t disappoint.” And with that, the two walked silently up to her door.
Carter’s car was already parked in front, so they weren’t surprised to see him sitting at the table. He stood up when the two women entered.
“Hey, Carter,” Randi smiled at him.
“Uh, Abby, I’ve been thinking and…I don’t think this is such a good idea. I’m sorry,” he apologized before touching her arm and walking out the door.
“John!” she called after him, the door closing in front of her. She turned around to face Randi.
“Look, maybe I should go…” she trailed off.
“No, stay.” She moved closer to Randi. “He wasn’t part of the dream anyway.”
Abby awoke when she felt eyes watching her. Wiping the sleep out of her eyes, she looked up and saw Randi watching her sleep. Realizing what had happened, she closed her eyes. “Oh, God…Randi, I’m sorry. I fell asleep…” Abby berated herself.
“Shh…it’s alright…” Randi quieted her.
“No, it’s not. You never got…” Abby shut up as Randi’s lips descended upon hers. After they broke the kiss Randi looked into Abby’s eyes.
“You’ll just have to give me my turn later.” Abby got a smile on her face.
“How about right now?” she asked. Randi wished it could have been right then, but she reluctantly turned Abby down.
“Your shift starts in an hour and a half.” Abby looked out the window, just now realizing that the sun was pouring in.
“Are you working today?” she asked Randi, getting up to get ready.
“Yup, in three hours,” Randi said, stretching her body on Abby’s bed.
“You can stay here if you don’t wanna get up yet,” Abby offered, staring at Randi’s body.
“Nah, I’d feel weird.” Abby walked over to the bed, still naked, and climbed over so she was kneeling in front of Randi.
“Stay. Get some sleep,” she said, kissing Randi’s lips. She went to get a shower and when she returned, Randi was already asleep. Abby got dressed and placed a kiss on her forehead, heading out the door for work.

Walking into the ER, Abby was greeted by Carter. “Abby, I’m really sorry about last night. I just couldn’t go through with it.” Carter had his little puppy dog face on, hoping Abby would forgive him.
“It’s alright, John,” she said, moving into the lounge. Carter followed her in.
“No, you wanted to have fun last night, and I ruined that.”
Abby looked away, “Yeah…but, it’s okay. I forgive you.”
John sat down at a chair while Abby put her things in her locker. “Was Randi upset?” he asked.
Abby smiled, back facing Carter. “Uhm…a little. But she got over it.”
John stood up, kissing the back of Abby’s head. “See ya later,” he said before walking out the door. Abby sighed and leaned her head against the locker.

Walking into the ER, Randi was greeted by Carter. “Hey, Carter,” Randi said. He followed her to the admit desk.
“I wanted to apologize about last night,” he said, hoping Randi wouldn’t think he was a chicken or anything.
“It’s fine. We had fun by ourselves,” she said, forgetting that saying that could cause problems.
“What?” Carter asked.
“Uhm…we talked about…” Randi trailed off.
Chuny was listening to their conversation. “That smile does not say talked. Who are we talking about?” Chuny asked.
“No one.” John turned around, a frown on his face.
“Carter!” Randi called after him, but he didn’t turn around. “Shit,” she muttered under her breath.

Abby decided that it was time for a break. She opened the door to the lounge, finding Weaver and Susan sitting at the table, talking. She walked over to the refrigerator and got herself a Pepsi, joining the conversation.
A few minutes later, Carter pushed open the lounge door, spotting Abby. “You slept with her?” he asked in a disbelieving voice. Kerry and Susan looked at each other and then at Abby, confused as to who John was talking to.
“John…” Abby started, walking toward him.
He looked away, and then back at her. “You didn’t even want me there in the first place, did you?”
She didn’t want to lie to him, but the truth would probably hurt even more. When she didn’t answer, he shook his head and walked out, the door closing in front of her again.
Abby sat back down at the table and put her head down on her arms. Kerry and Susan exchanged glances. “What was that about?” Susan asked.
Abby looked up at her. “Uhm…I’ve been having this recurring dream involving…someone, and I wanted to see if John was interested in it, and he said he was, but then he changed his mind. And then since he wasn’t in the dream, after he left…uhm…” Abby trailed off.
“Who was it?” Kerry asked.
“Randi,” Abby said.
At that moment, Randi walked in the door. All three pair of eyes turned to her.
Kerry stood up, “Uh, Susan, I think there’s a patient we need to get back to…” Kerry walked out the door, Susan right behind her, leaving the two brunettes to stare at one another.
And yeah... I apparently never finished it or added a second part lol. My brain probably got distracted and followed Kerry and Susan out of the room, which is a trend that holds true to this day! But thank you for sharing in this blast from my literary past lol
