the palace was abuzz with drinking and merriment, the halls filled with music and gossip. ben adjusted his collar, eyes scanning the room for the couples to be wed. he had heard that a newcomer arrived mere hours before being paired off and from the whispers in the city, it sounded like his rey.
it had been two months since ben had awoken in sanctuary, each day getting harder without things he was familiar with. horse-drawn carriages and steam power puzzled him, and the layers of clothing deemed appropriate for a gentleman in the area were an inconvenience. he missed his dark robes.
his eyes locked on a woman in blue standing next to a blonde gentleman. his breath hitched in his throat, eyes widening in shock. it was her. or at least, she looked just like her. he followed her in the shadows of the marble statues, waiting for the perfect opportunity.
the music swelled and as people made their way to the ballroom, ben seized his opportunity to grab her arm, leading her into a dimly lit pantry. squinting in the darkness he put his hands on her shoulders. “are you rey?” he said, his voice desperate.
