Current idea for my “Single dad Minato” au, in an attempt to avoid Itachi from being appointed Anbu at 10 and potentially be closer to Danzo’s influence and manipulation, Minato and Fugaku both agree to instead appoint Itachi as Naruto (and subsequently also Sasuke’s since they’re close friends) personal tutor pre-academy.
Itachi becomes partly responsible for helping Naruto find control over his and the Kyubi’s chakra by using his Sharingan to help give Naruto the opportunity to interact with Kurama using genjutsu (like how Sasuke went into Narutos head to see Kurama when they first saw each other again in shippuden) but to also protect Naruto from the Kyubi’s influence since he’s like 5 years old. Itachis a large reason why Naruto is able to access Kurama’s chakra without having to get angry first like in canon. So instead as young as 6, Naruto can already manifest some of Kurama’s tails and also the red chakra coating while still being in full control and awareness of what’s going on.
