You’ve heard of doomed by the narrative consider that Itachi Uchiha actually haunts the narrative.

Like in the normal sense that he’s Sasuke’s man motivation in the original series starting from the moment that he says his goal is to kill someone specific and ofc Kakashi knows exactly what he’s talking about but he also knew that guy from when he was like, thirteen. Itachi is the source of Sasuke’s nightmares and the reason that Sasuke runs off to Orochimaru in the first place and in some sense the catalyst for nearly all of Sasuke’s actions.

But Sasuke’s actions are also the catalyst for a lot of Naruto’s actions and Naruto also independently meets and interacts with Itachi. Itachi is technically in Naruto’s generation but because he was so good as a shinobi he’s more well known amongst Kakashi’s. He’s another reminder of all the things Kakashi lost, another way he failed. His presence on the narrative is so large that not a single character is untouched by it, and this is before we even see him. He’s the reason Sasuke remains safe in Konoha, why Danzo hasn’t touched him. He made a choice to kill his clan but in doing so became a ghost, both by joining the Akatsuki and dropping off the grid but also by haunting the narrative so hard that he’s one of the biggest what-if’s in the whole story.

This song from my angsty gym playlist came on this morning and I can’t stop drawing parallels to Sora’s inner world when I listen to it. It’s almost ironic how well some of the lyrics fit her fury about the whole investigation. Can’t wait to get to writing the chapters I’ve been building toward. The itch to skip ahead is so intense I almost can’t focus on writing anything else aaaaaaghhh
