The sudden rush of temperate air was the first thing Powder felt since agony had overtaken her. It chilled her to the bone, making the poor girl shudder and jerk up almost instinctively. Though she still despaired, sobs breaking out with every ragged breath, a sense of confusion began to seep in. Where…was she? It was still dark, but none of this looked familiar. Had she passed out and been taken somewhere else, left out in some other alleyway?
Lost. She’d been abandoned, and now she was lost. Stuck somewhere she didn’t recognize. Her aching chest began to heave with every breath, the pain growing worse and worse. She couldn’t help it. She couldn’t calm down. Her body shivered again, making her only now aware of how numb she felt underneath her soaked clothes. Was she about to die? Is this what that felt like…?
Somebody else was there. Of course, she didn’t recognize him. But his long, dark hair, the clothes of similar shade…it was as though he’d melted in from the shadows. A spectre here to take her away now that she was alone.
Powder just stayed where she knelt, silent beyond her sobs. Every nerve was alight, telling her to run. She was certainly prepared to…
