saw a take about how Morticia is treated waay better than other Mortys in Cytadel and i have something to add to it.
Morticias not only treated better, but also seen as more superior versions of their male counterparts. I personally think they would be more resilient, stronger, smarter(!!), and overall trusted to more by their Ricks. We know Mortys are smart already; they tend to pick up on different languages, seek a middle ground in conflict resolution, flexible and adaptable. basically intelligent in their own way. but Morticias go even further than that and it simply goes back to their gendered background, how they were raised (bc Mortys and Morticias would NOT be brought up similar ways im sorry)
I think it would also be strictly prohibited to clone Morticias. they are a rare find and it's better to stay like that.
JK! please don’t click off. still really funny they finally referenced some of that gen alpha brain rot.
this clip is also one of my favs not just cause of rickorty happiness, but also because it shows an outsider’s POV on rick and morty. the happiness between the two lasts for too long, instilling an “ok, we get it” moment. then once it passes that threshold, it turns into an “ok wow, this is uncomfortable. why tf are they acting like this.” this is how a couple acts! again, probably the writers trying to reference the emotional incest happening between the two or play up awkwardness to create a funny moment, but another thing the writers could be doing is setting up for the next episode. the way they’re acting is too happy. they want audiences to notice that.
i will be so embarrassed if this episode isn’t a set up for the next one, but i’m really hoping it is. this episode could genuinely just be a reference to the cheesy, wholly unrealistic kung fu movies people would watch growing up. next episode is a reference to the book a river runs through it. from the spark notes reading i’ve done on the book: i have no idea. trying to assign characters to characters strictly one to one from an old book to a new piece of media is a bit difficult when i haven’t done any reading of the novel.
i do know paul is considered a master fisher and out of control, while norman is his brother that’s more calm. paul eventually gets beaten to death because of his chaotic life style. it feels safe to say rick is the paul in this episode while morty is the norman—but who knows what the writers will be doing? i’d love to see an out of control morty with rick reeling him in (haha reel, fish, you get it right?), similar to the purge world episode. this idyllic honeymoon happiness between rick and morty will end eventually though, i believe.
honestly, i could be reading too much into things. i will be thoroughly surprised if any of what i wrote comes to life in the show. thoroughly surprised.
LOLLLL the writers are getting blatant with their rickorty agenda. i feel like prior seasons haven’t had as many sexual jokes between rick and morty until now.
in the first episode, we have the writers discussing rick and morty’s relationship as a romantic one—further established by evil morty’s status as a “homewrecker” and rick describing morty as possessive. (btw, i love that! the possessiveness goes both ways in this relationship!) in the second episode, we see the parallels between marjorie and morty (yellow shirt, general demeanor, and romantic depiction).
is all this comparison of rick and morty’s relationship to a romantic one the writers’ alluding to the emotional incest happening between these two? probably. rickorty brain in me rejects that thought though. i’m just coping by believing rick and morty actually got together in season 9 and finally came out to the family about it.
this clip is one of my favorites! i love it when morty plays up the “someone else other than you hurt me and made me cry” routine. ‘cause we all know morty knows how to manipulate his grandpa. we’ve seen it during the whirly dirly conspiracy (s3ep9) where morty literally admits he manipulated rick into hanging out with jerry. this moment is just amongst them!
They were ADORABLE in that last episode! I bet it's not gonna stay like that but seeing them be wholesome together was nice. And Rick calling Morty his "sweet little grandson" was so unexpected but CUTE.
