@oceanboundx // josiah & jake
agreeing to leave the cottage was one thing, he’d just about conceded to that already. but a play, this whole dressing up palaver...it wasn’t his thing long before he’d decided to shut himself away. the only reason he’d had any interest in attending events like this was to protect his king and...well, to see ariel. now the former was no longer his responsibility and the latter was impossible.
so why come at all ?? honestly, though he’d struggle to admit it to himself, he’s here for josiah. the man had been there for him more than most since he had begun to drown his sorrows in whatever bottle was closest. the least he could do was ensure him one night of not having to worry about his friend. not that now seemed like it would even be a consideration after the commander’s first act.
holding out a glass of scotch to the other mer, he levels him with a wary look. “you should find saylor.” he nudges, gently. “whatever they’re up to, she should be careful.”
