Tal’s life rolls on quietly in the country below. At the peak of the Throat of the World, old friends think on trials to come.

"Zu koraav hin faasse, Alok-Kaan."

The ancient wyrm, sedate and gentle, laid his old bones down on the snow. He folded in his wings and curled up his tail while he watched the woman pace across the peak. She stood out against the frozen rock, her copper skin gleaming and bold against the blue of the unbroken sky. Her hair was different than last time he saw her, the tips of dark tresses stained pale. Still, she bore the same scars and ink. Still she was tall and slender. Still her footsteps barely left prints in the snow. She was not suited to rest.
