international women’s week challenge  /  day two: that’s my girl. some of my ocs being best friends with each other.

soulbound.

based off this post. after having their souls magically bound together, midori wonders why romeo seems so against it. this is all @kendelias fault <3

The atmosphere as they make their way back to camp is tense. It has been ever since they’d escaped from the magic prison they’d been trapped in, alleviated slightly while in battle, only to cloak them once again with their enemy defeated.

Midori walks slightly behind Romeo, watching his back. Usually, they walk side-by-side, sometimes even with their hands joined, but tonight there is none of that. She’s deep in thought and she assumes he is, too. As much as she wants to ask what he’s thinking about, she wonders if she wants to know the answer.

It started when they heard the terms in order to get out of the magical prison their enemy had conjured for them. They had to magically join their souls together, a ritual and a half in of itself, and one that is very hard to undo. At least, that’s what she read about it. Perhaps she should have found it daunting, but she found herself not minding, not with Romeo.

If there is anyone she would trust with her entire soul, it would be him.

But he hadn’t been as eager. He’d immediately wondered if there was another way, and when no other options presented themselves, he’d said that this may as well be permanent, that she should really think about it. She said she already had. It was only when it was clear they had no alternative that he agreed.

And now here they are, free but weighed down. Midori touches the centre of chest, the place she assumes her soul to be, the place that had shone gold as it linked with Romeo. She doesn’t feel any different now that the battle is over. So what is the problem?

She’s going to find out.

Stopping in her tracks, she says, “Romeo.”

Romeo stops, but doesn’t turn around. He doesn’t speak, either. At least he’s listening.

“Is it so bad for our souls to be linked magically?”

His shoulders tense. She continues onward.

“We’re already dating. We love each other.” She stops, fear creeping up from her stomach to her throat. “Unless…”

“Midori.” He finally turns around, and quickly at that, striding over. “Midori, of course I love you.”

His words reassure her, at least enough that she can breathe again. “Then why?”

He looks away, fiddling with his scarf. “Having your soul bound to another person is such a big thing, you know? Your magic, your being, is connected to them forever.”

“You said this to me before,” she says, gently tilting his chin upwards so he’s looking into her eyes again. “What’s the real reason? Why are you saying all this?”

She maintains her determined expression and he flounders in front of it, opening his mouth and closing it again until he finally comes out with an answer. “I just… I don’t want you to regret having your soul bound to someone when you eventually find someone better.”

Blinking, she drops her hand. It takes a moment for his words to properly process, confusion taking hold the moment they do. She steps back.

“What are you talking about?”

He returns to not looking at her. “You can have anyone you want, Midori. Your soul can be bound to whoever you want to. You’re beautiful, you’re smart, you’re talented. You’re a princess and I know being a princess must come with some expectations, like who you’re supposed to marry and how your life is supposed to go. And I know that you don’t care about expectations, but sometimes I think of how so many other people could give you more than I can give.”

She steps back again. “I… I’m so confused, was all of this temporary to you?” Anger seeps into her tone.

“No! Of course not.”

“Do you not want to marry me someday?”

“Of course I do, of course —”

“How long have you been thinking about this?”

“Since…” Romeo falters. Her heart thuds in her chest. “Only recently. Ever since I realised… I realised there isn’t anyone else.”

“Huh?”

He looks her in the eye again, and even in the dim light of the moon, she can see the intensity in them. It leaves her breathless.

“You’re it, Midori. I think I knew this the whole time, but there isn’t anyone else for me. When you aren’t around, there’s something missing, and I keep watching the door because I’m waiting for you to walk in. You’re the first person I look for when a battle is over and whenever I see something I like I immediately want to share it with you. And maybe that’s pathetic of me, but I wouldn’t give it up for anything.” He takes a step forward. “I’d do it over and over again for the rest of my life.”

Midori’s jaw has dropped ever so slightly during his speech, any and all anger completely gone by this point. Her eyes sting but she ignores it.

“Then prove it.”

Her tone is firmer than she feels. Romeo’s eyes widen. “What do you…?”

“Marry me.” She swallows thickly. “Because I won’t marry anyone else. I don’t care if some noble or prince comes up to me and offers me a castle and a title and riches and luxury, I don’t want any of that. They don’t have anything I want because I just want you.”

At some point during her declaration, her tears have started to flow freely. In most cases, this would leave her embarrassed and running to hide, but she stands her ground. She isn’t going anywhere until Romeo understands just how much he means to her.

Romeo takes a step forward. Then another. “You… You want to marry me?”

“Is that so surprising?” She sniffs. “I love you. You already had my stupid soul before I had to magically give it to you. You have all of me.”

For the first time since their mission ended, Romeo cracks a smile, even as he blinks furiously. He closes the distance between them and sweeps her up in a hug so tight but so incredibly warm. She buries her face in his chest until he gently pries her away, putting just enough distance between them so they can see each other’s faces.

“Marry me,” he says, voice but a whisper.

Butterflies flutter in her stomach from those two words alone. “I will. Of course I will.”

With the way Romeo lights up, one would think he expected her to deny him, and Midori would have teased him for it if her lips weren’t already preoccupied with his.

Hello there! ^^ another OC bingo ask - a follow up to my first one:

When I have a cup of coffee or tea, I often love to have a little snack such as cookies (biscuits if you're from the UK) or some kind of pastry. Does she have a favorite tea or coffee "snack"?

if she's having coffee, she likes to grab a plain biscuit and dip it in before eating it. if it's tea, she'll usually steal some of the bakery items at the hotel she works at and have those! if she had to choose a favourite it would be a honey scone or a blueberry muffin.
