I haven’t really told many people that I’ve lost my job, or the details behind why. It’s not like I got aggressively “fired”, I was made redundant, but the company was basically going a direction whereby they did not need me any more. I’m not skilled with 3D Modelling or programming ... at least not to an advanced level. I’m a motion designer. I work with SFX and whatnot ... I guess they didn’t need that anymore?
On the day I found out I felt pretty hopeless. It was really sudden and I did not see it coming. Then after a few days I was working on getting over it. I only planned to stay there another year for security and another year of experience, but I guess it just came early.
Most of my clients in that place were oil companies -- epically boring. Especially for someone who wants to heads towards theatre and film. pff.
I think I find some of this really fishy. I was the only one made redundant. I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t skilled in 3D or programming.
I’m still debating what to do. Half of me wants to go back to university to do an advanced master’s course. Another half wants to jump right back in and search for a new job in Edinburgh. All I know at the moment is that I need a break.
I’m looking into my rights, but I’m still distressed about all this? I don’t want to pile it on anyone. Most of the people I know have their own problems.
