dead people don’t have friends. dead people don’t worry about their family. dead people don’t give a shit about anything. but simba is alive. he knows he’s alive because his knuckles are hardened over in a dark red that matches the stain on the floor he’s never worked up the nerve to ask about and there’s a sharp throbbing in his hands that hasn’t faded from the night before. he knows he’s alive because he can feel the tremors going through his arms as he fights to sit still, sit forward, be dead be dead be dead. he knows he’s alive because he can hear his heartbeat drumming in his ears, loud enough to cause a headache but not loud enough to cover the noises coming from the only other room in the house. he hears shit getting knocked over, followed by muffled swearing, and then what sounds like a hair dryer going on and off a few times. if this were anything else he would’ve smiled. 5 minutes later. 5 years later. he’s really not sure. but kovu comes out of the bedroom. his hair is perfectly messy, his shirt is free of stains, which is a miracle in itself, and he’s pacing back and forth like he’s nervous. be dead be dead be dead be dead be dead. “uhhh, hey simba i gotta get goin’. i’ve got, um--” simba cracks a smile. do dead people smile? the effort it takes tells him no. “yeah yeah, i know buddy. get outta here.” kovu almost smiles, a visible weight off his shoulders as he stuffs his hands in his pockets and heads for the door. simba turns away. he closes his eyes. dead people don’t see. he holds his breath. dead people don’t breathe. he bites his lip. dead people don’t talk. but simba is alive. “hey, kovu!” the boy turns back, eyebrows raised like he’s expecting what comes next. “don’t, um. i mean. just--” kovu claps a hand on his shoulder. he feels it in his bones like an aftershock. “i know, man.” simba watches him go this time, out the door and into his car. keep her safe. keep her happy. tell her i’m sorry. tell her i’m dead.

who’s the first to wake up in the morning: they usually wake up around the same time. every once in a while, though, mel will drag them both out of bed really really early to watch the sun rise on the beach before crawling back into bed for a few extra hours of shut eye.
who’s the one to make breakfast: kiara (because honestly mel should not be allowed anywhere near an oven) but nothing too fancy. they usually just have cereal.
who’s the one to serve the other breakfast in bed: i don’t know if either would do that unless it was for a joke. i don’t really see them being too into a lot of cute relationship-y stuff.
who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work: mel as a joke, but kiara would be serious about it.
who suggests they both ditch work and lay around all day: i think kiara would suggest it & mel would be like “oh no. we couldn’t. that’s terrible. responsibilities.” and then snuggle them both back under the covers.
who chooses the movies: they both do. mel sits through terrible awful scary movies for ki (she really only picks them bc mel will bury her face in her shoulder when she gets scared) if and only if kiara watches superhero movies with her.
who initiates kissing during the movie, thus distracting the other from the movie altogether: i think probably kiara in the beginning when she was the brave one & mel was 2 awkward 2 function. as they got more comfortable with each other, though, they both do it.
who orders lunch: whoever’s feeling the least lazy probably.
who steals food from the other’s plate without asking: kiara, mostly because she’s just a very share-y person & her family never really had any boundaries about that stuff.
who curls up next to the other and falls asleep due to a fully tummy: mel, usually. she has a habit of eating too much junk food & then passing out. kiara thinks it’s cute, but she also totally has an album in her phone dedicated to embarrassing pictures of mel sleeping. one time she fell asleep with her hand still in the back of cheetos. ki’s gonna turn it into a t shirt one day.
who distracts the other from trying to work at home: mel, but usually not even on purpose. kiara will be trying to get through some dumb royal thing for sarabi when she’ll hear mel yelling & lightsaber sfx coming from the living room & it’s really hard to resist a round of lego star wars w/ your girlfriend.

who’s the first to wake up in the morning: cinderella, obviously. she’s used to being an early riser. she can usually get up, eat breakfast, go out to run a few errands and come home to find aurora still laying in bed.
who’s the one to make breakfast: if aurora was awake in the mornings they’d take turns, but since she never is it’s cindy’s job
who’s the one to serve the other breakfast in bed: i think aurora would surprise cindy w/ breakfast in bed every once in a while when she’s feeling especially romantic
who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work: hmmm honestly if i had to choose i’d say aurora, but i don’t think she’d ever use the word “quickie.”
who suggests they both ditch work and lay around all day: aurora tries to convince ella to stay in bed all day, like, every morning. ella only lets it happen on sundays.
who chooses the movies: they take turns picking, they have very similar taste.
who initiates kissing during the movie, thus distracting the other from the movie altogether: this is hard. part of me wants to say aurora but like the other part of me thinks that aurora would get lost in whatever movie they were watching in the first few minutes & ella would think it was so cute she wouldn’t want to interrupt her.

who’s the first to wake up in the morning: ella. she’s used to rising with the sun so her internal clock is set for reeeeaaaaaallllllyyyy early. charming usually feels her shifting around when she wakes up & pulls her back into bed so they can get a few more hours of shut eye.
who’s the one to make breakfast: charming likes to do that for her whenever he can. he likes making sure she knows she doesn’t have to be a servant anymore.
who’s the one to serve the other breakfast in bed: again, charming. i’d like to think he’s secretly a big romantic sap.
who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work: I FEEL REALLY INAPPROPRIATE ANSWERING THIS QUESTION FOR THE RECORD. but let’s be honest charming would def try to hop in the shower w/ ella every morning. she’d only let him in sometimes tho.
who suggests they both ditch work and lay around all day: this one’s hard. i think neither of them. charming’s too by-the-book as far as his duties are concerned & ella’s so used to having a nose to the grindstone kind of work ethic. i think charming might jokingly suggest it sometimes but ella’d roll her eyes before getting them both out of bed.
who chooses the movies: they both do. charming loves giving ella all the little freedoms she never really had before but she’d insist that having her pick every time was silly & unfair, so they’d compromise.
