when did you start creating for animanga? what got you into it?
i started back in 2022. i had to learn how to use photoshop for my job & wanted to practice at home with some of my personal interests. i'd recently gotten into animanga & thought "why the hell not"
what type of creations do you make? what tools or programs do you use to create them?
mostly gifs & graphics on photoshop
describe your creative process from inspiration to posting. what's your favorite part? what part's the most challenging?
i think most of the catalysts for my creations just come from consuming media. either i watch an anime with a cool scene or read a manga with a quote that resonates with me or something. the idea rattles around in my head until i make time to sit & edit something. my favorite part is when i have a clear idea that i know how to execute. the most challenging part is figuring out coloring, hence why most of my creations just have gradients slapped on them lmaoooo
what's your favorite animanga creation you've made so far? why?
cheating bc this is multiple creations but everything i made for the hanami challenge. for some reason all the prompts just clicked for me & i was able to make exactly what i envisioned which never happens.
what's your favorite amc challenge so far? why?
two answers here (yes i'm gonna cheat on all of these questions). my favorite to participate in was the secret santa challenge! my favorite to plan from the staff side was the egg hunt challenge. it was fun to hide the prompts & watch challengers scramble to find them lol it made me want to do more interactive challenges in the future.
what's something that you've learned or improved since joining amc? are there any particular creators in amc that inspire you?
one thing i love about amc is how we recommend so many things to each other! i've gotten to expand my horizons & experience animanga that i probably would've never even considered through recommendations & book club so i'm really thankful for that.
@masterqifrey & @aslaanjade's gifs will always inspire me bc their coloring is so iconic you can spot them a mile away. @queenrojpag & @ruanbaijie's creations & pure creativity blow my mind fr. if i ever get my shit together & give an honest attempt at manga coloring, then i would def take inspiration from @lilium-dragomir & @taohs's colorings!
what's your favorite animanga? why?
it would have to be aria. for someone who's favorite genres are action & adventure, it's kinda wild to admit that my favorite animanga is a slice of life. whether you watch the anime or read the manga, you really can't lose. the anime has a beautiful soundtrack & the art of the manga is stunning. the characters in both are so compelling & you'll be rooting for everyone by the end.
what's an animanga that you wish was more popular or you wish more people created for?
other than aria, i'd say kino's journey. kino is probably the nonbinary character i resonate with the most that i've come across in animanga. they're very introspective & the episodic nature of the series makes everything feel fresh & new.
what advice would you give to other creators or people who want to create but have not tried it yet?
your first audience is & always will be yourself. if creating something makes you happy, then that's enough of a reason.

from teaching herself how to make gifs in 2022 to bring more life to a quiet fandom, mica’s creative journey began with a love for daiya no ace...and it still all comes back to her baseball boys. working mainly with gifs and edits in photoshop, her process is fueled by curiosity, trial and error, and letting creativity flow without a rigid plan. read on to learn more about the challenges that reignited her inspiration, the animanga that shaped her as a creator, and why sometimes the most important step is simply starting.

when did you start creating for animanga? what got you into it?
I first started making gifs in 2022, so i haven’t been doing it for that long. It started out when I got into Daiya no Ace, somewhat late. The fandom wasn’t very active and I missed seeing new content like I saw with many other animanga. So I decided that if I wanted new content, I might as well make it myself. And so I taught myself to make gifs through YouTube videos, just to have more Daiya content. Soon expanded to other animanga, but Daiya no Ace are my roots.
what type of creations do you make? what tools or programs do you use to create them?
A like to dabble a bit in different kinds of creations, but gifs are definitely my main visual media. I do like to play around with gfx and edits too, and for a short while I did try my hand at coloring too. I actually started out using Canva for my gifs, which honestly wasn’t ideal for me personally, since I couldn’t scale my gifs in there. So I migrated to Photoshop and haven’t looked back since. For the few colorings I’ve done, I used ibisPaint X on mobile, thanks to @hansooyung who showed me the app.
describe your creative process from inspiration to posting. what's your favorite part? what part's the most challenging?
Its funny, because my creative process is generally a lot of trial and error. I hear a lot of people talk about how they have a vision for what they want to create, but I don’t have that. For me it’s more often than not a question of watching a show and thinking “this scene would be fun to gif” or having a character I love and wanting to make SOMETHING of them. I go through a lot of episodes sometimes and just cut out whichever clips I think may work. I don’t even have a clear idea of how I want to edit them if I’m being honest, so I really just play around with it until I think it looks good. Which is a bit chaotic, but it’s fun and lets me let the creativity just flow free. The hardest part for me is often is actually piecing it all together in a post for tumblr.
what's your favorite animanga creation you've made so far? why?
I think I would have to point to something like this one. It might be simple, nothing too fancy. But I’m really proud of how the colors turned out on it. I’ve made plenty of edits and gifs since this one and some of them might be better too. But I like how this one turned out a lot.
what's your favorite amc challenge so far? why?
I actually really loved the Greek Pantheon Challenge. It was part of what drew me out of a slump in creating and I loved planning and getting to make all the creations for the prompts. I really liked that it was bigger than “just” one creation, and the prompts were challenging without being too hard. Also I do love me some mythology so that was a fun spin on that too! I do also really love the duo challenge, that I’m currently working on the last edit for with my challenge partner.
what's something that you've learned or improved since joining amc? are there any particular creators in amc that inspire you?
I like to think that we all improve as we go. It’s very inspiring to be part of amc and seeing how other people express themselves and their creativity. How others do the challenges. And I think that in itself inspires me a lot to keep growing and learning new things as a creator. There are a lot of people in amc that inspire me, absolutely. Some that really inspire me are @the-mother-of-lions and @taohs and I’m not just saying that because Isabella and Aki are my friends as well. They’re both insanely talented in each their own way and being able to spar and see the things they create just makes them even more inspiring to me.
what's your favorite animanga? why?
My favorite animanga is Daiya no Ace. It all comes back to my baseball boys. There’s just something about it that resonates with me more than any other animanga has done. The characters are fun, the show is making me feel both good and bad, and there’s just something about an animanga that teaches us things. Not just with lessons in the animanga, but for me personally how it was what taught me to create.
what's an animanga that you wish was more popular or you wish more people created for?
I already said it; it all comes back to my baseball boys. Daiya no Ace. But I can only hope that it will increase when we finally get another new season in April. Fingers crossed.
what advice would you give to other creators or people who want to create but have not tried it yet?
This is especially for people who might have a bit of a scatter brain like I: it is okay if you don’t have a vision. It’s okay if you don’t know where you’re going with your creations from the get go. The most important thing is to just do. Because if something doesn’t look right to you, you can change it. But you can’t edit or change something you didn’t start. Do it scared. Do it bad. You can always learn and grown and edit. Just take that first step. Let YouTube help you. Or ask another creator for tips. All of the ones I know are super sweet and love to help.

Just watch or read Daiya no Ace. I know it’s a little long and overwhelming, but it’s worth it.
bonus question: why did you choose the character on your banner?
I chose him because he was the whole reason I got into my favorite show and thereby into creating. I had a mutual describe him as “your typical pretty boy with a bad personality” and I just knew I would love him.

from experimenting with online photo editors in the early tumblr days to building her skills in crafting intricate graphic sets, tay’s creative journey has been years in the making. what started as making simple forum banners eventually developed into vibrant gifs and carefully formatted graphics fueled by curiosity and experimentation. read on to learn more about the series that shaped her as a creator, the colors she loves to play with, and why she’ll always have a soft spot for beautifully crafted graphic templates.

when did you start creating for animanga? what got you into it?
I first started creating for animanga specifically in 2014 on my old tumblr account, and back then I didn't have access to Photoshop yet, so I would just make super simple stuff with a free-to-use online photo editor. What initially launched the hobby for me was actually a non-animanga related fandom waayyy back in 2009, and it was when I wanted to create a cool banner for my posts on a forum (this is dating me so bad jdrhglsdgh). It was so much fun though, I continued making edits with online editors and was totally content with it (all of my really old edits on my old animanga tumblr are from this era). But after spending a while on tumblr and getting exposed to all the gorgeous gifsets and other intricate graphics, I finally got my hands on Photoshop, learned how to make gifs myself, and the rest is history.
what type of creations do you make? what tools or programs do you use to create them?
I primarily make gifs, simply because they're less time-consuming, though I do really enjoy making graphics when I can muster up the energy and inspiration. It's all done in Photoshop, specifically the version from 2021.
describe your creative process from inspiration to posting. what's your favorite part? what part's the most challenging?
I'd say simple gifsets require less "inspiration" since it's more about just seeing a scene that I want to gif and throwing it into Photoshop. For those more elaborate graphics, perusing through other creators' works is a great way to find inspiration, and I'm a huge advocate for experimentation. A lot of the time, I just click random stuff in Photoshop and see what works. If there's a specific effect I want, there are SO MANY wonderful tutorials available that can help you learn tips and tricks. (seriously, tutorial creators are the best and I respect the time and energy people put into making them because I could never hsfgkdhfg)
My favorite part is probably just experimenting with colors. I really abuse the selective color option and just have a blast messing with all the hues. Honestly though, this is probably also the most frustrating part lmao because you can do all these adjustments and get the colors right where you want them but then go to save/export and have the gif come out looking terrible... so, as much fun as coloring can be, spending hours trying to make them actually look good in a final export is definitely the bane of my existence.
what's your favorite animanga creation you've made so far? why?
There are two that come to mind whenever I try to answer this question for myself... they're both pretty similar to each other formatting wise, but I guess that tells you what I find particularly pleasing in a graphic set lmao
I'm a huge fan of this type of template for a graphic set, it's incredibly pleasing aesthetically and lends really well to an overall complimentary group of images. I'm really happy with how the colors turned out, the pale purple/yellow combo suits Nanami's character really well and they look really nice together, and I think I did a good job with the composition.
This one I specifically put a lot of care into. There was still a lot of experimenting and playing around in Photoshop, but it's one of the rare instances where I went into it with a "vision" and I'm incredibly proud of the outcome. I'm obsessed with the colors, that deep red is gorgeous and looks so good for Mikasa, and I'm really pleased with all the different ideas I managed to incorporate together. Obviously, I'm the most proud of graphics that I actually take more time on with actual formatting and stuff. Sadly, I feel like we don't see a lot of graphic sets with these kinds of templates anymore, and it honestly breaks my heart. It definitely takes a LOT more time and energy and commitment, all of which I struggle to find myself, but I really do miss the days where you'd see more variety of edits and effects.
what's your favorite amc challenge so far? why?
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to create for as many challenges as I would like, but of the ones I have participated in so far, my favorite has been the Greek Pantheon! I think it's a really cool list of prompts that has given me the opportunity to create for certain series/characters that I otherwise wouldn't have much reason to, and I've had a blast with the template I decided to use.
what's something that you've learned or improved since joining amc? are there any particular creators in amc that inspire you?
I've definitely learned that simpler colors can work better in certain situations, and even if I don't always implement this (I really love vibrant colors...) it's still valuable advice that I keep in mind whenever I'm coloring, and it's definitely saved me a few headaches. There are so many different styles of coloring that I've seen among the members, and I always love getting to discover all the individuality! Aki (@taohs) has always been a huge inspiration of mine when it comes to coloring, both her gifs and graphics/manga colorings, but Kayle (@lostloves) also really blows me away with her use of pastels, which has always been a difficult thing for me to master.
what's your favorite animanga? why?
Trigun/Trigun Stampede have really taken over my life the past few years. I still need to read the original manga, but I have fallen head over heels for the characters and the world and the story of both Stampede (which was my introduction to the series) and the original 1998 anime. One of my favorite tropes (if this even counts as one) is the goofy silly guy who is actually a dangerous badass and when he gets serious means absolute business and that's exactly Vash's character lol. The relationship between Vash and Knives is so deep and nuanced and tragic, and Stampede specifically explored their dynamic incredibly well. Two twin brothers who both love and want the best for each other but are going about it all in completely opposite, incredibly flawed ways whilst navigating the lengths humanity will go to just trying to survive, all taking place in a really cool blend of the sci-fi and old western genres... When I tell you that I was NOT prepared for Trigun Stampede hdgkdhgrfhd
That being said, the series that has stuck with me the longest and had probably the biggest impact on me is World Trigger, which I first got introduced to back in 2014 and to this day remains one of my favorite series. It emphasizes strategy and team dynamics in battle rather than random power-ups or "the power of friendship" winning the day, and all the fights are so intricately handled in this way. And the cast is LARGE, like there are SO many characters but it never feels over-crowded. Everyone feels real and all the relationships between them are so natural and interesting! The dialogue between characters is so well written and the politics of everything keep you on your toes. The world-building is fascinating with an incredibly cool power system that, ultimately, is pretty contained but also SO versatile where such a large cast of characters are basically all using the same types of weapons but in VASTLY different ways. It's always introducing new things so it never feels stale, and it lends to some seriously badass fights that you never know who's going to win. The main cast of characters are all really interesting and have great dynamics and backstories and motivations, and there's a distinct lack of pointless fan service that I deeply appreciate. Overall, a fantastic series that is GROSSLY underrated and deserves so much more love than it gets.
what's an animanga that you wish was more popular or you wish more people created for?
I guess I just answered this lmaooo but WORLD TRIGGER!!! It's always broken my heart to not have a bunch of pretty gifsets and graphics to look at for this series... it deserves all the pretty things.
what advice would you give to other creators or people who want to create but have not tried it yet?
I don't think I'm great at giving advice, but I gotta say to just have fun with it! Try different things! Play around and experiment! That's exactly how I've ended up with most of the stuff I've made. I cannot express enough the power that comes with clicking random things and seeing what happens. And if you don't have access to Photoshop, try an online editor - you might not have quite as many options, but I can speak from experience and say that you can get very creative and develop a lot of basic skills that you can then implement with bigger and better programs down the road.
anything else you'd like to share?
I have a deep appreciation for fandom creators. It is NOT easy and we often do not get the respect we deserve for the time and energy we put into the things that fandom spaces take for granted. If you're reading this and you're a creator of any kind at any level, I appreciate you. Don't give up. Keep doing what you love and spreading joy for your favorite things!!

I've fallen helplessly in love with Vash and all of his iterations, but Stampede was my introduction to the series and remains my favorite piece of its collective media. I adore that tragic goofy badass with all my heart.

when did you start creating for animanga? what got you into it?
I first began creating for animanga in the fall of 2021. I started watching anime about a year before that, during the pandemic. My partner was already into anime and it was just a natural progression of finally taking an interest in something they were into to. I was also really sick at the time and couldn't really do anything so I binged whatever seasons of Boku No Hero Academia were out at that time.
what type of creations do you make? what tools or programs do you use to create them?
Primarily, I make gifs. I use a bootleg of 2020 Adobe Photoshop now, but previously I used Photopea. But in the last year or so I started doing manga colorings, for which I use IbisPaint. I also make the occasional graphic/static edit with PS.
describe your creative process from inspiration to posting. what's your favorite part? what part's the most challenging?
Typically I get inspired from music or quotes or other creators. From there, depending on the type of set, I'll plan out what scenes I want to use. For the more involved sets I'll write down what I'm picturing with as much detail as possible as well as notes to myself on how to do something if it's a new technique. Then I'll gather all the scenes, make all the base gifs and try to keep them the same length as much as possible. Then I'll start actually editing the gifs. This process can sometimes be the hardest for me. It's really challenging for me to use scenes with different lighting and tones and then try to make them all look like they're not really different. What worked on Gif 1 doesn't always work on Gif 2.
My favorite part of creating is when I've got everything done and I'm looking at it in my drafts before I post it and it just hits every single thing I wanted it to. I am my own target audience, so it's always really satisfying when I'm able to make what I envisioned come to life.
what's your favorite animanga creation you've made so far? why?

It wasn't a technical set at all and the scenes I really wanted were years away from being animated. I remember it came together pretty quickly though. But in the end it was everything I wanted it to be and was a good way to process my feelings about what was happening in the manga.
what's your favorite amc challenge so far? why?
My favorite challenge was the Duos challenge.
I really like my partner and I want to get to know her better, but we're both so busy with real life and I'm shy lol. But I really love working with her and I appreciate every time she's taken the time to teach me or give me creative advice.
Not a favorite but I'll always have a special place in my heart to the first secret santa exchange from a few years ago. I made a lot of good friends thanks to that challenge.
what's something that you've learned or improved since joining amc? are there any particular creators in amc that inspire you?
My gif coloring has improved a lot, I always feel like its a bit lacking. And I have gained a lot more confidence in my creations.

what's your favorite animanga? why?
My favorite is Jujutsu Kaisen. I've been following JJK for a long time, before it got popular, so it's always going to be my pet favorite. It was the third animanga overall that I watched and read and it just clicked. It's a tragedy that no one can change and everyone in the story is a victim of the narrative, including the audience.
My Cool™️answer is Sk8 the Infinity. It's an anime that has something for everyone and I love how genuine it feels and the way it portrays different types of relationships.
what's an animanga that you wish was more popular or you wish more people created for?
I have three.
Katsugeki TOUKEN RANBU (anime only) - Based off a game (that I have not and will probably never play) but the animation is beautiful and the story was really intriguing. If it had a manga i would have read it. And I love the characters and their designs.
Sabikui Bisco - The storyline itself isn't anything outstanding, it's relatively basic. But I love the characters and the way the emotions and relationships between the main characters are depicted. Had me full on sobbing at one point.
Tokyo Aliens (manga only) - A pretty standard gifted student with powers storyline, but the art is beautiful and again I love the way the relationships within the characters are shown. They're complicated and so many of the characters are very gray, I definitely recommend it to anyone who liked JJK or CSM.
what advice would you give to other creators or people who want to create but have not tried it yet?
Just go for it. You never know until you try and its a lot easier than you think it will be. Like with any new creative skill, it's going to be really ugly at first, but you have to keep doing it or it'll always be ugly. There are so many tutorials and stuff out now to help guide you too, you're not totally on your own.

when did you start creating for animanga? what got you into it?
including art no one other than my siblings ever saw, it's ever since i am allowed to watch the tv! i started drawing anime stuff as a kid because i've been watching a lot since then. i've been naturally into anything animanga for as long as i remember. technically, i may have started computer editing basic anime graphics in like 2010 or so (and only posted them in now deprecated sites lol). for tumblr, i had my blog for longer but it was only in 2020 that i committed to it being an animanga and creations blog!
what type of creations do you make? what tools or programs do you use to create them?
i usually make gifs and art, with the tiniest dash of graphics editing when something calls for it or when an inspo pops up. i use photoshop for gifs and edits, and procreate for art and anything hand drawn.
describe your creative process from inspiration to posting. what's your favorite part? what part's the most challenging?
when making gifs, it's just ingrained to me to take on either a fav scene or my fav pretty character(s), and fully edit that like the robot that i am when making gifs (just sticking to my fixed gif editing methods). when major adjustments are needed, i really like seeing how the final colors differ from the original! the most challenging would be cases when i slap on my fav preset and suddenly pixels are all over the place and i would have to re-edit a whole lot than expected OTL when drawing and for some graphics, i'm on the boring side so i'm just inspired by real life events and pretty looking references (mostly on the outfits aspect). i also get sudden bursts of motivation when i see something i dont like involving my favorite characters. my favorite part for sure is when i just finish the final lineart and the whole thing actually looks good (at least for me). the most challenging part is always from the moment the base colors are done up to where i have to put up at least some decent shading!! and of course, deciding on a background is a permanent pain point </3
what's your favorite animanga creation you've made so far? why?
i think this one is the top for me! i love how it turned out exactly as i envisioned it, plus i got to gif, include some style on the edit, and otp brainrot all in one post :')
what's your favorite amc challenge so far? why?
that would be the 20th vs 21st century badge battle! it was really fun to see everyone's pick and a bit of how some would promote their sides. the friendly competition not only brought out a lot of cool edits and recommendations, but also more interaction among the amc members.
what's something that you've learned or improved since joining amc? are there any particular creators in amc that inspire you?
i feel like i've definitely learned to make more outside of my comfort zone! i wouldn't say very successful yet on that regard, but i've tried doing stylistic-ish posts on some of the amc challenges. a lot of the amc creators are inspiring especially when i see both the ones with consistent style, as well as the ones who drop different styled banger edits one after the other!
what's your favorite animanga? why?
ahhh, this question! there's a few but hunter x hunter is definitely among the top. probably not just because of the i grew up with it bias, but i love how you get everything cool out of it. easy to love characters, interesting villains, fun and drama and action, great music, and a whole lot more. i could rewatch it anytime and could only wish to watch it again for the first time! <3
what's an animanga that you wish was more popular or you wish more people created for?
it's already manga-complete and it's not like there's any new content (manifesting) lately but i'd love to see more creations for katekyo hitman reborn!
what advice would you give to other creators or people who want to create but have not tried it yet?
definitely just go try and do it! if where to start is a worry, there are available tutorials on tumblr. trying those out and starting to learn is a different kind of fun process and you get to know which works for you however you like! there are also a lot of helpful creators who can answer more specific questions on different aspects of the creation process so don't be afraid to ask if doing that will help you. just enjoy and if you ever decide to post, know that there will always be people who appreciate them :')

when did you start creating for animanga? what got you into it?
I think I had this anime blog for almost a decade ago 💀 (but been on tumblr even longer hjsfdajks) so I've been making edits ever since and longer! I've always liked anime since I was younger (it was not just a middle school phase asdhjkas) but fell out of it. I only got back into it when I was learning Japanese, so I decided 'oh let me watch some anime to improve my Japanese skills' but of course, I focused more on the plot rather than improving my language skills sjhgasdj. So I continued to watch and eventually got pretty obsessed with many series and decided to make an anime blog and followed many creators which also inspired me to make my own edits to express my love for my favorite series!
what type of creations do you make? what tools or programs do you use to create them?
I usually make gifs and manga colorings and once in a while graphics. I do all of this on Photoshop.
describe your creative process from inspiration to posting. what's your favorite part? what part's the most challenging?
I think the most inspiration comes from the creations I see on tumblr because there are just so many beautiful edits! I also like paying attention to anime openings and endings and even scenes because sometimes there would be pretty backgrounds/textures I can use for edits lol. My favorite part about editing is seeing the before and after, for example, how I would gif a scene and change the colors to be more vibrant is so satisfying. One challenging part that immediately comes to mind is for when I finish coloring a mangacap and have to decide on the background LOL. Sometimes I dislike having just a simple solid background, so there were times where it took me an hour just to decide what the background would be skadjgjasd 😂
what's your favorite animanga creation you've made so far? why?
My favorite creation would be my Thorfinn coloring for the Badge Battle #2 for the demographics! I'm pretty sure that's one of the colorings I've put my heart and soul to it and its one I always remember very vividly. I know I can still improve it more but I'm honestly so satisfied with how it turned out and can't even believe I did it! (maybe I should've made the background better sajhghjkas)
what's your favorite amc challenge so far? why?
I enjoyed the ABC challenge! After watching/reading so much animanga, I can finally appreciate many different characters and series!
what's something that you've learned or improved since joining amc? are there any particular creators in amc that inspire you?
Before joining AMC, I was in an editing block but ever since I joined, I was really motivated to continue editing, especially with all the fun and creative challenges, and I really wanted the badges lolol. Everybody in AMC is super creative and I'm very happy to be a part of and learn from you all! what's your favorite animanga? why?
I have a few favorites but one of them is One Piece. You get happy, sad, mad, just every emotions out there in one series frfr
what's an animanga that you wish was more popular or you wish more people created for?
I know it was popular enough and already ended but Gintama. More people need to watch it, it's only a few hundred episodes jhsajkhgds. Just do it.
what advice would you give to other creators or people who want to create but have not tried it yet?
I know tumblr reblog/like ratio has been terrible and will never get better but if you are happy and have fun when editing, then that's all that matters. There will always be someone that sees your beautiful creations 😏
