I was talking with my husband last night about how, given the various times/settings for all these new Star Wars shows, there are SO MANY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS who either could or definitely will show up in any one of them, and I just went into this completely embarrassing Nerd Spiral of being like "Oh my God and also [so-and-so] could be there! Or [other beloved character]! Or if they do [whatever] they could have [some other character] in that one too! AHHHH OH MY GOD HOW IS IT ALL HAPPENING SO SOON ALL AT ONCE HELP"

I just cannot wrap my head around how much new content we're going to be getting, and how soon it's all going to kick off, AND HOW MUCH OF IT I ALREADY KNOW HAS FICTIONAL PEOPLE I LOVE IN IT, to say nothing of the inevitable Surprise Guest Appearances.

I need to go lay down. It's too much.

Apologies about the late post - I’ve been an interpid explorer all day yesterday and didn’t get at the laptop until around midnight, by which point I was shattered.

It’s that time of the year again! Time to show love to all your frens, mates, bros, heroes and buddies :) We’ll be doing another edition of Secret Admirers, according to exactly the same rules as last year. If you want to see what it looked like last time, check out here and here.

To recap, the plan is as follows:

We ask that on Sunday, the 19th of August you anonymously send little teaser-stories to your fandom friends.

You can use one of two options to ‘deliver’ your stories - shorter ones can be sent via asks on Tumblr, longer can go into a special AO3 Collection (more about this below).

Please go on anon to send the stories via asks. If you’re posting into the AO3 Collection, your work will appear as anonymous automatically. The guessing game is part of the thrill!

We thought a minimal length of 300 - 350 words (longer is fine). That’s just over 3 asks.

You have 2 weeks to prepare

Select your recipient(s) and consider what they might like to read, what’s their ‘jam’.

The more the better, think a little avalanche of low-flying ficlets

We hope for this to be a positive thing with as many people included as possible. If you’re normally very shy, this is your chance to interact with the person/people you’ve always admired. Think also of some lovely new faces around the fandom, or those who haven’t been around for a while, busy with their lives - it’s a chance to show them that you see / remember them too :)

All fictional Dean / Aidan pairings are a go

Please avoid parts of your own WIPs, we’re looking for new stuff

If you get one (or a couple) we ask that you respond to them in public, so others can read it too

More info on how to send asks or post to AO3 collection under the cut:

First off, all you need to know about asks:

You can only send up to 5 anonymous asks per hour.

Ask can only be a maximum of 500 characters. Spaces count as characters.

Ask will fail if: it includes links, paragraph breaks, special characters, emoticons, or ellipses, or doesn’t have spaces between sentences.

This means that it’s impossible to have paragraphs, new lines or new scene breaks in an ask.

Anon asks do however have the benefit of making that little red number next to your inbox go up and up and get your recepient excited :)

In view of this, asks would work well for shorter stories. Though feel free to use them if you prefer, just be conscious of their limitations. If you do:

Please start your first ask with SECRET ADMIRERES

Any trigger warnings go at the beginning of your first ask

Please number your asks 1 of 4, 2 of 4, 3 of 4, etc. so it’s easy to spot if an ask is lost

Longer stories can go into an anonymous AO3 Collection:

Log in on AO3 as you, go to the Collection, click ‘post to collection’.

Anything you post into this Collection automatically appears as anon.

Fill in the tags and warnings and everything else like for any other work.

Tick ‘add notes at the beginning’. This is where the name of your recepient goes, as it appears on Tumblr.

A little bit below there’s a field called ‘Gift this work to’. This is where the name of your recepient goes as it appears on AO3. Leave blank if you don’t know what their AO3 username is.

Once you have posted your work, you will see it as ‘Anonymous [Your Username]’. Everyone else sees it just as ‘Anonymous’.

Please remember that there is an old Secret Admirers collection from 2017. We are not using that one, we’re using a new one.

Now please jump back on Tumblr and send an anon ask to our recepient to let them know they have a gift story. Remember that putting a link to it won’t work in an ask, so just point them towards the Secret Admireres AO3 Collection. Feel free to add a little preview if you like.

AO3 posting has the benefit of allowing you to have normal formatting, praragraph breaks, an easy way of marking your warnings, and of course is quicker to post in one go. It also has an easy way of getting comments which we encourage everyone to do. :)

If you are the lucky recepient, please post a link to your gift story on your tumblr, so others can see it too. #Gathering Secrets 2018
