The Tartarus thing is actually an excellent allegory for grief and loss. Pure Vanilla desperately following White Lily deeper and deeper into the depths of the underworld, almost losing himself in his desperation to get her back... Only to finally understand that she needed something different than what he has to offer and finally, FINALLY, letting her go. It hurt him to do it. But he did it with a smile, and a hope that one day they could meet another again and that when they did Lily would have found the happiness she needs to heal.

Because as much as Pure Vanilla and White Lily cared for one another, for all the lengths that they'd go for each other, what they need to feel happy and fulfilled in life just isn't compatible. White Lily loved Pure Vanilla, but felt that his affections and concern were a burden that stifled her and held her back. And as much as Pure Vanilla loved White Lily, it hurt him that she would disregard his worries and be so reckless with her life and safety over and over and over again. And now they both finally see that. And so they've gone their separate ways, hoping to meet again in a future where things will be better for both of them.
