hi sorry if this is really dumb or frequently asked but i wasnt sure what this would be called so like i get really attached to a character that i relate to to the point where i believe i am them and have dreams and stuff as them and it feels like really bad when people mischaracterize them bc it feels like theyre mischaracterizing me? idk if thats like a therian thing or whatever (im sorry i dont know the words) ijust wanted to ask
So there could be a couple of things going on here, depending on a few factors, and I'm really not going to be able to tell you which one is correct - ultimately it comes down to what feels right to you.
The obvious answer is fictionkin, identifying as a fictional character and/or species, partially or wholly, and that these are fictotypes (the thing you identify as). Most fictionkin don't describe their fictionkinity as coming from an attachment to a character, but there's no reason that couldn't cause it.
If these identities are temporary, and eventually fade away again (which I bring up mostly because of the description of it coming from attachment), you may want to look into fictionflickers, which are exactly that - temporary fictional identities. Unfortunately you're probably going to find less information on this experience, because it's a little less well-known, but there is stuff out there.
I feel like there's probably one or two other things it could be, but it's not coming to me right now; if anyone else has things for anon, feel free to add on in the notes. Hope this helps at least somewhat!
