I think by "secret evil option" they meant you guys are both each others only friends (at least anymore) and worst enemies, you've been isolated together so long that you both hate each other but you've also been in the shitty situation for so long that you're starting to love each other not in a romantic of friendship way but in the "we faced the same trauma and only really had each other" way.
