Octavia running away from the planning of an arranged marriage and making her way back to her dad
Stolas finally admitting to Octavia that her parents weren't ever in love and that they were forced to marry just to bring her into the world
Octavia grappling with that for just a few moments, but is pulled from her thoughts as Stolas continues explaining that he tried doing things "right"
That he kept the peace because he was destined for that life and it was worth it to see his daughter happy
That he repressed the part of him that didn't experience the attraction that he was supposed to feel so that he could fit in, so that his daughter could have the family he never had
And the oddly shaped puzzle piece finds its place in the picture, because Octavia couldn't find a way to feel that attraction to anyone at all. And the pressure to change herself– to squish the puzzle piece into a place it doesn't belong, to trim it to fit somewhere new– is suddenly gone
Replaced by the kind of acceptance that comes from mutual understanding and shared experience
Octavia finds a new love and appreciation for the flawed man that she's happy and proud to call her dad. She refuses to give in and Stolas supports her because he'd never let what happened to him happen to his daughter.
