“You’re so, so, so pretty.” juli @ gentry
Gentry often wonders if she can tell when he needs her kindness. There are days he gets out of bed and he can’t stomach the thought of painting, forcing him to find alternatives; Juli has caught him in the throws of a cleaning haul, hard at work and bent over the overflowing sink, surrounded by a mountain of supplies. If she looks into the basin, she can see the pads of his fingers knead each brush one by one and wring the paint from the bristles with care. The water stops and the towel around his bare shoulders sways when he turns around with a grateful smile. “Is that so?” he queries, drying his hands on a rag. Gentry gestures to himself and the mess, then back to himself. “Perhaps you would have been an artist; you will find the beauty in anything.”
