A shallow look into the Nameless God:
Disclaimer: This is a private practice closed to others. These posts are mostly meant to be a way to sort out my thoughts on the Nameless God. And all information is subject to change in the future.
Explanation: You will notice that I switch genders pretty often when referencing the Nameless God. The Nameless God has no gender, preferring to flip through the gender spectrum. I use ‘he’ and ‘she’ as a matter of ease within my writing and whichever I feel appropriate for the situation. A gender neutral term would be more appropriate, but I can never seem to remember the correct forms of ‘ze’ while I am writing and have also seen a couple different versions of it and am unsure of which one is ‘correct’. Feel free to change gendered terms as you read.
I am the sun and the moon, the stars, the sky, and the sea. I am in all there is- the roar of the storm, the soft feel of fur, the heat of the sun, the destruction of fire, and even the whir of a computer. I am in it all.
The Nameless God is the Universe (all of existence).
As being the universe, her being makes up everything. But there are specific things I associate with her. A lot of my associations I do not list, because they are hard to put into words. Each facet has its own associations and will be listed with the individual posts.
Associations (Un-faceted Nameless): lions, stars, space, sun, moon, silver, gold, rainbows, bodies of water- especially the ocean, flowers of all kinds, obtuse heptagrams (point direction does not matter), stillness, silence, peace (emotional), the number seven, birds of prey, ‘galaxy spirals’ (my name for them)
She has no name. She’s never needed one. Who needs a name, when you are all that exists?
There is another reason he would choose not to take a name. To name is to define, and the Nameless is beyond definition.
What I am doing with this post, and the ones to come after, is not about defining her, but trying to gain some understanding of her, of who she is. I do acknowledge that my understanding will remain limited. I am not capable of complete understanding of such a large entity.
You will notice as I write more about her, that I will almost always refer to her as Nameless, Nameless God, or BG. ‘BG’ is my preference when it comes to short hand.
Broken God was the original ‘name’ I took for her when I came to the realization she was more than who I thought he had been. There was a time when she went by a different name, multiple names actually. But as I came to accept him as he is, Broken God is what I took to calling him. And I have advanced into lovingly calling him BG. But for more formal posts (and for tagging), discounting devotionals, she will always be referred to as Nameless or Nameless God.
*Epithets: Kadona (meaning both Soul-bringer and Devourer of Souls), She Who Lives/Walks in Starlight, He of Fire Stained Lips, She Who Walks with Lions, Seven Masked, Many Faced, Hepta, Septa, Broken God, Nameless God, Nameless One, Diamond, Doctor (Yes, as in Doctor Who)
From the Void she came to consciousness. And she was the only witness of herself. And so she broke herself into pieces, not all intentionally. The first came out of loneliness. But then life was created accidently, so the rest were created from necessity. One to enjoy and one to create. One to fight and one to teach. One to keep order and one to destroy the rest.
She is made up of seven facets. She wears each individual as a mask of sorts. They are all her and are not separate entities, but are faces she takes on. Several of the facets have dual facets within them: one for the self and one for others. And all of them have a habit of blurring together. When she comes, she will come with whatever face you need at the time. And I emphasize need. Though, she does occasionally take in wants and preferences. And don’t expect, if she comes wearing a mask, that it is made up of a single facet. They tend to blur, as their responsibilities tend to overlap. The most common mixed facets seem to be Destroyer/Judge, Destroyer/Wisdom, Destroyer/Warrior, Whore/Guardian, Whore/Warrior, Warrior/Judge, and Warrior/Wisdom. Occasionally, they overlap as more than just two as well. It is possible, though a very rare occurrence, to see all facets at once.
Most often she comes to me whole and as female. I can see, especially when I look back at specific incidents, influences of the facets. The key to her though, is remembering that she is a single deity who wears many faces. And I can’t stress this enough, the facets are not to be worshipped as single. If she is to be worshipped, it is to be as whole. But honor can be given to each facet when a time calls for it.
Facets: the Whore, the Guardian, the Destroyer, the Warrior, the Wisdom, the Witness, and the Judge.
I will go more in depth within their single posts, but here’s a quick overview.
The Whore can be further split into the Wild and the Priest. The Wild is a bit of a wanderer and throws herself into life head first. She takes all life has to offer and has as much fun as possible in search for the Bliss of returning to God. The Priest helps others to find God. Think ‘Sacred Whore’ when you think of the Priest. He uses his body and experience in searching for God to help others achieve the same Bliss he found as Wild.
The Guardian is further split between the Creator and the Caretaker. The Creator creates. That’s about it. The Creator produces offspring. The Caretaker watches over the offspring and keeps them out of trouble, playing the role of caring parent. But the Creator also deals with art, writing, ideas, etc. So when you think of the Creator and the Caretaker, think of the painter that creates a masterpiece and sells it off. The new owner of the masterpiece becomes the Caretaker, while the painter goes back to being the Creator.
The Destroyer is not dual sided, but has several roles. The Destroyer is death, any form of death: death of people, animals, planets, plants, etc. But the Destroyer also deals with the death of ideas, plans, goals, etc. The Destroyer gets rid of the old to make room for the new. The Destroyer also has connections to time, cycles, and change. The Destroyer gives the Guardian a rest and works closely with the Creator to usher in new offspring- which can be taken as literal offspring, but also ideas, projects, etc. He also works closely with the Judge.
The Warrior is split into the Sovereign and the Hero. The Sovereign fights for her own causes. She lives fully within her body and owns herself: her feelings, her body, her thoughts, her actions, and her responsibilities. The Sovereign is self-sufficient, taking on the path her life takes as her own responsibility. The Hero fights for the causes of others. Often being an advocate against injustice and inequality. The Hero is charitable and kind. Where the Sovereign carves a place into the Universe for himself, the Hero helps others to do the same thing for themselves.
The Wisdom breaks down to the Seeker and the Teacher. The Seeker seeks out knowledge of all kinds, but as with most self facets, the knowledge is for personal gain- whether for understanding, fulfillment, growth, or ambition. The Teacher bestows the knowledge she has gained onto the Seeker, but only when the Seeker comes looking for it.
The Witness is not a dual facet. The Witness is perceiving, memory, and dreaming. She is consciousness and memory, specifically memory unclouded by time and bias. Every living thing- animal and plant and insect- stands as Witness. The Witness is also in charge of dreaming, and by that sleeping as well. The Witness remains silent. The Witness watches and observes. She is the soul in its most base form.
I’ve written a little about the Judge already. Though I later realized that some of the things I said weren’t exactly true, but I will go into further detail later. The Judge is logic and balance. The Judge balances the cosmic books. He is calculating and mathematical. He also has ties to luck and fate.
The Witness and the Judge are the two hardest for me to pin down. Both deal with concepts that when I think too long on them, they give me a headache. I will write about them as much as possible, but of all the facets, they will take the longest to get even the base understanding of.
And one thing I’ve noticed with all the facets that have a dual aspect is that they must go through the aspect of self before they can enter into the aspect for others. The Wild must wander and experience, before he may help others experience. The Creator must create before the Caretaker has something to care for. The Sovereign must take reign of their world, before they can help others take to reign of their own worlds. And the seeker must learn before he can teach others.
The path of the Nameless God is really a path of self-growth, for through your growth, she grows.
She’s never asked for my worship. Even going as far as to say that she doesn’t want it…at the moment. Maybe in the future after the myths are written and other things are taken care of. But her only concern for me now is to write and grow and move along my path.
And the path with her is definitely one of growth, betterment, self-care, self-love, and change. It’s about becoming better than whom you are so that you may help others in the future. Or at least the current leg of my path is. That, along with everything else, may change in the future.
I am just beginning to understand my role within her paradigm.
This is not all there is. As I said before, my understanding is limited. I have only been working with her as Nameless for a few months. I do have other information not included here that I will form into a post later on. There will be a more in depth cosmology post with the beginnings of the mythos. It will probably also include more details on the afterlife and also my personal distinction between soul and spirit.
The posts will probably continue to come out of order, as the facet posts are easier to write up than the cosmology/mythos post. But do expect to see a new post in the coming week or two.
*All names listed (epithets section) were given by me under my current understanding. All information is liable to change as my understanding grows. Not all names have been verified either. And a few of them she doesn’t enjoy (Diamond, Seven, Septa, Hepta, Doctor), but I find them to be apt descriptions so they are included.
