Whispers of Casablanca
She had always been curious about the world beyond her own. She met him online—a writer from Casablanca with a quiet charm. Their connection began unexpectedly, with casual chats about books and their favorite meals. Over time, their conversations deepened, weaving through dreams, fears, and silent spaces they felt only they could fill.
“Do you ever think about meeting?” She asked one evening, her voice carrying more hope than she intended.
“I do,” he replied, his voice soft but hesitant. “But life… it’s complicated right now.”
She smiled, though her heart felt a pang. “Complicated” had become his shield, the word that kept her at bay.
Months passed. Their chats became less frequent, his responses more distant. She knew she was holding onto fragments of a bond that had already begun to unravel. Yet, the memories of their shared laughter and those midnight confessions clung to her.
One day, while walking through a marketplace, she spotted a vintage notebook. It reminded her of him—the way he used to jot down thoughts and ideas in his quiet moments. On a whim, she sent him a final message:
“I found something that reminded me of you. But I think it’s time I stop looking for pieces of you in the world around me. Take care.”
There was no reply.
She tucked the notebook into her bag and walked away. She didn’t need his answer anymore. She realized that loving him wasn’t her mistake—it was letting herself believe he’d choose her the way she chose him.
it is strange - and sad - that I still keep you in my heart.
