let me come up with plots for us!

omg i feel like astarion and gwayne would either get along antagonistically well or despise each other. why not both. they have good days and bad. :))

i. i love the tourney idea you have him........ while astarion is not a participant bc he prefers dragons over horses, they can meet there! maybe after criston beats him in the joust, and out of personal intrigue, astarion tries to learn more about gwayne, the hightowers... something something always trying to learn something about someone for blackmail material lol ii. i'm thinking of this previous interaction being the basis of their relationship, whatever it turns out to be?? whether there's a fondness there or total hatred, if and when they cross paths, it's charged. i know gwayne with mostly with criston after they depart KL but random opportunities for them to meet: astarion ambushes gwayne/criston and co. instead of baela (and if not from the sky, from the ground. which is stupid, but if his dragon is nearby, uses that as leverage to have them not kill him); shows up after the battle of rook's rest and intercepts gwayne there on their way back to KL; gets once back in KL, gets gwayne to meet him somewhere either in the city or outside of it. astarion is testing the limits of his loyalty. iii. astarion hangs around KL after rhaenyra leaves for dragonstone. gwayne is ALSO hanging around... again, based off the first tourney interaction, they're older, their lives are running their course... it's a time to catch up and see where they stand with each other.

𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐎𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐀𝐒 𝐈𝐅 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐎 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐖𝐍. though others would argue she has her husband, her children, her father or her ladies to serve as her company or people who are suppose to be beside her ... alicent could argue the exact opposite of those relationships. in truth, she is not as close to them, in a genuine sense, as she wishes she was because of how skewed the bases of said relationships feel. it creates organic distance, it makes for nothing more than superficial connection. ( viserys married her for heirs, her father had a hand in it. her ladies work for her & her children often times feel like being sent to suck the life out of her in one way or another. though her children, on some level, are an exception ... alicent is reminded of just how isolated she is when taking stock of the people in her life. ) & because of this the only people she can truly turn to are her brother & the princess rhaenyra ... once upon a time.

head continues to tilt down, fingers messing with an astray strand on her opposite sleeve. for a moment the queen is silent as if words weight on her & it takes everything in her not to spill confession of all of her unhappinesses. would that be unfair to put on her brother just because he is one of the only ones to listen ? ❛ then perhaps you should stay a bit longer, brother. ❜ is the response that leaves redheads lips as head lifts & widened, sad eyes look toward her brother. ❛ they do not need you back so soon, do they ? besides, i am the queen ... i- ... ❜ words cut off as her gut fills with dread.

with certain things, yes. alicent doesn't have a lot of doubt when it comes to certain moments, events, or things in her life but its all dependent on what said even is. how ... aware she was at the time. most of her time with rhaenyra when she was younger is extremely clear in her mind, accurate to how she remembers it--perhaps it is because she was happiest, most carefree, or because she replays them so often in her own mind for comfort or what was that the clarity remains the same. however, other things ... she finds less trustworthy in her memories or shes, in a way, reordered them to make them make sense. in some cases as well she's misassigned emotions to certain traumatic or distressing events to make them feel less scary or important in her own brain. alicent downplays them as well as how truly horrible or traumatic they were. some of those include: her marriage to viserys, the wedding night, is not something she can clearly remember. it's mostly blacked out. other things are the births of her children and while she remembers them, her feelings arnd them, she has a tendency to twist her own feelings around them to make the harder things easier to bare.

when it comes to post canon / season 4 things ... once alicent gets sick and begins to lose touch with reality before and during it she does not trust her memories at all. they're more confusing, fragmented than ever. she often mixes them up as well as who is who.

"what is the meaning of this ?" his voice was quiet & weary, utterly devoid of the joyous lilt it usually carried while talking to the knight from the oldtown. 

though daeron was—contrary to popular belief—not exactly a dimwit ... he knew what it meant, he could see it plain & clear on the other's face. gwayne had come to his senses. whatever that bizarre thing neither of them had managed to put a name on even was, it simply had to stop. their once-conventional friendship had taken a rather strange form, and ser gwayne was perturbed by it. how could he not be ? how could daeron resent him for it ? 

he was sad enough a fate for a maiden, why should a man wish him upon himself & be damned twice ?

"i would rather do both ... but something tells me that you believe we have no such option." he offered a tight-lipped smile, followed by a wry half-shrug.

"am i still somewhat welcome at the reach after all this or shall i look for another much-needed vacation destination ... ?"
