well, it turns out that what cap was painting was when Tony almost died in S1. E1 The Avengers Protocol: Pt. 1.

all of the other Avengers were surrounding him, and you can clearly see tony’s body laying on the floor with cap crouched next to him.

i was emotionally prepared until i saw that.

and don’t ignore the picture of Tony on the wall of Steve’s room to the left of the painting with Natasha to the right of it.
