Catamarans
The first catamaran was used in Polynesia as early as 1500 BC and the name originally comes from the Tamil ( kattumaram) and means two logs tied together, because the first ones were two canoes joined together with a crossbeam or platform. They could be rowed or sailed with a crab sail, or both depending on their size. The first written record of a European was written in 1697 by William Dampier. He had seen these vessels in Malabar off the south-east coast of India. "They call them catamarans. These are but one log, or two, sometimes of a sort of light wood ... so small, that they carry but one man, whose legs and breech are always in the Water."

The first European catamaran was built in 1662 by William Petty. His concept was to create a merchant vessel that could sail in shallower waters, needed less wind and was still very fast. However, scepticism prevailed and the project was not pursued after HMS Experiment sank.
This is William Petty’s design for a double keeled ship, designed in 1663 and called her HMS Experiment. (x)
It was not until 1820 that Mayflower Crisp made another attempt with the Merchant Catamaran Original. She did not sail in Europe but was used very successfully for several years during the monsoon season between Rangoon and Tenasserim Province of India. But she first remained the only ship of her kind.
Nathaniel Herreshoff's 31 ft (9 m) long catamaran, Duplex, on the River Thames, built in 1877 (x)
In 1876, the American Nathanael G. Herreshoff discovered this design and built a catamaran named Amaryllis. This ship was not used as a merchant vessel, but as a yacht and was very successful during a regatta off the New York Yacht Club's Staten Island station. This is where historians argue, because in 1868 the Irishman John MacKenzie built a vessel that looked very similar to a Sport Catamaran, but unfortunately all the data on it has been lost and it is therefore doubted as the first Sport Vessel.
What can be said, however, is that there have been racing catamarans since the late 19th century. But it was not until the 20th century that catamarans really took off and were also used at the Olympics. But they were not only used as racing vessels, but also as ferries (alleged use as ferries in the early 19th century is highly disputed, as there is no evidence of this) and working ships.

Hand Drawn Map of the Ming Dynasty, ~1500CE.
Biblical Archeology 16——Makeup tools, perfume bottles, and necklaces dating back to 1500 BC.
The makeup tools, dating back to 1500 BC, include mirrors with handles, small spoons, and cosmetic boxes. The mirrors are made of copper, and the handles, with different designs, are mostly made of wood or copper. The small spoons and cosmetic boxes, with various shapes, are mainly made of wood or ivory. These artifacts are now displayed in the Louvre, Paris.
The perfume bottles are mainly made of marble. They are now displayed in the Persepolis Museum, Iran.
The necklaces excavated from Susa are made of glass or agate. Though they are artifacts dating back 3000 to 4000 years, some of the colors are still very well preserved. These necklaces are now displayed in the Susa Museum, Iran.
In Esther 2:12, "… this was the regular period of their cosmetic treatment, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with perfumes and cosmetics for women." The oil of myrrh and cosmetics might have been kept in these kinds of makeup tools.
