I realized this evening that I never uploaded pictures of the green striped silk suit I made back in... July. Whoops! So funny story about the silk part-- I was prepared to drown in my own sweat for the sake of this suit. I was ready to die. I threw this together in a week, everything was machine sewn and all possible corners were cut, because it had to be synthetic at the price I had paid for it and I wasn't going to be bringing it to any historical events as a result. And yet I did notice while I was making it that I needed a higher iron temp than I would have expected. And when I wore it outside all day in Philadelphia in July, I did not die. I sweated, sure, but I was not particularly uncomfortable. Sure enough, I burn-tested a scrap when I got home and discovered that my beautiful green and gold stripe is actually silk, so for the last few months I have been taking the suit apart and redoing all the visible parts by hand, and I'll be relining the coat with silk twill instead of the shitty acetate I used when I thought I was making a shitty tacky suit instead of a gloriously tacky suit. Don't worry, the new lining will still be violently purple. #historicalcostuming #historicalsewing #historicalclothing #18thcenturysuit #18thcenturyclothing #18thcentury #1780sswag #green #greenandgold #greensilk #1780ssuit #dandy #colorfulmenswear https://www.instagram.com/p/BuFz-0wj_is/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=m7njyjaonu35
