The New York Rangers are one of the Original Six teams that composed the NHL before its 1967 expansion. They got their name from sportswriters, who called them "Tex's Rangers" because their founder was Tex Rickard.

They played their first home game of the 1928-29 season on November 18, 1928 at Madison Square Garden.
