Gold ring
Set into the bezel of the ring is an oblong sliver of wood. The inside of the ring is inscribed with the words 'Part of ye canoe used by Captn Franklin RN in his land Arctic Expedition 1819-22', which relates to Sir John Franklin (1786-1847)
Small brass compass, before 1819
This beautiful piece was presented by Commander John Franklin to Hudson Bay Company chaplain, Rev. John West (1778-1845) after Franklin's first (1819-22) arctic overland expedition. It was used in survey work during that journey.
