every time I hear about what tøp are doing / saying I always end up liking them a lot less idk man, they're starting to give me bad vibes
i think that’s happened to a lot of people, and a few months ago i was the same. i hope you don’t mind but i’m going to answer this publicly because it’s something i’ve thought about.
the problem is that people idolize josh and tyler too much and put them on this weird pedestal of innocent perfection where they can do no wrong and need to be defended at all costs, and any criticism at all is baseless hatred, which is really not the case. they are grown adult men who still need to educate themselves about some things and take responsibility for mistakes they make. people treating them like the Purest Angels™ then makes things seem a lot worse whenever they do slip up, which happens, as it is bound to, because they’re not perfect - but neither are they terrible people, as the opposite side of things is the way a lot of people started to demonize tyler for the problematic things he’s done (i never really understood the way people started to blame tyler for everything and treat josh as the innocent one and the only saving grace of twenty one pilots??)
since the clique has grown so much and so rapidly, there has been so much drama stirred up that has kind of given twenty one pilots a bad name within bandom, but not all of it is drama - it’s necessary to have discussions about important issues and to call tyler and josh out for problematic things that negatively impact many people, because they’ll never learn or grow otherwise, and neither will the people always agreeing with whatever they say or do unless they listen to other people and educate themselves too. it’s those people refusing to change and always attacking people who gave the clique a bad rep too, and why a lot of people have negative connotations with twenty one pilots because of the combined behaviour of the members and the fans.
at the end of it all, they’re not bad people. but if their actions make you not want to be a fan anymore, that’s okay. if you just want to listen to the music instead, that’s okay. and it’s also okay to still support them while recognizing when they do things they shouldn’t.
