1st Ix, except it's my Skiold AU and he's Uno reversing you. ✨(And Gefion didn't braid his hair today)

Concepts for my "Everyone Lives" Rays AU that I've had since 1st Ix's debut chapter. Gefion and Skiold!

Skiold being my AU name for 1st Ix due to how perfectly it fits him, mythology-wise. Skioldr is Gefion's husband in mythology! And he died as well. More on my reasoning and concepts below the cut.

In the event 1st Ix lived, I figure he'd rename himself to avoid the Ix confusion, and follow along with Gefion and Nevan in differentiating themselves. Skiold feels like a way to write his name akin to how Gefion was translated.

My very first concepts were to give Gefion and 1st Ix proper sprites (It was before we first saw Gefion's face) so that I could draw them without confusion in an imaginary post-ending sandbox scenario where they're both fine. A lot of my doodles were made after the first concept, so you'll see that one mostly. But I really feel like I'm getting close to where I want to be in the most recent 3rd concept!

A thought I had about 1st trying to confront Phil before deciding to write the letter.

See, I'm convinced 1st Ix is simultaneously never flirting and always flirting. In other words, you can view this comic as platonic or as the beginning signs of the 1st/Phil ship and either way you're right! 1st is the definition of chill, so I don't think he minds either way!

Sorry for the long comic! There are a couple of pretty big comics like this in my sketches, so there will be more lol But with different subjects of course.

Please let me know if I should tag this or any of my other art with anything like ships you don't want to see and such by the way!

I am wholeheartedly invested in 1st and Gefion's relationship, but especially with how 1st speaks and Phil's feelings towards him, I'm honestly down for the 1st/Phil ship as well. (As adults of course. This was just relevant to the letter development as the last time they talked, so)

Or friendship. Again. Either way.

Words to Live By.

Even though it's still only a sketch this is one of my favorite works.

1st is just so good. And his ability to just tell everyone like it is and make them feel better is so great. This man is such major goals, and when I'm having a hard time sometimes I think about both his message to Ix during their first meeting and my tldr comic version here. Haha.

I was starting to settle in to drawing fanart of Kocis, Ix, and Mileena when this bugger came along and took over my art. I thought I wouldn't particularly care about 1st Ix but BOY was I wrong. After the chapter where we actually met him, I was fully invested.

RIP 1st Ix. Rest well with Gefion finally. As much as I wished he would end up living, I knew where the plot was going with him. Alas.

At the very least, Rays devs still owe me a proper character design for him though. Especially the tragedy that is re-using his young sprite when he's 22 years old. In the meantime I will finish my own for AU shenanigans. I'm no Rays concept artist, but it's what I'm dealing with.
